I've been a fan of this series, this one on the AMX 30 is no exception. The text is short, but provides excellent overview of the development and production of France's mainstay tank for decades. Lighter than the Leopard, the AMX suffered from early reliability problems, compounded by restricted budgets. The AMX is also one of the lightest MBTs, but the French argued HEAT rounds would defeat any armor, so better to create a lighter tank which should also have better appeal to smaller countries.The photos of the exterior are first class. There's enough of the interior to get a really good idea of the fighting compartment (I love it when the reader gets to 'peek under the hood'). The captions are helpful and show the tank in many circumstances, which are very helpful for modelers. Many line drawings help the reader to see how the crew uses the vehicle, the storage, maintenance, etc.I'd recommend this book to all armor fans as well.

Large and clear black and white and colored photographs, complete technical data, good--but somewhat sparse illustrations, and clear and easy to understand text. Paper quality is not as good as with earlier manuals like the one for the Tiger I or Saturn V, but is nevertheless adequate. The binding and covers are, however, solid like prior manuals. Content is well balanced across development history, technical descriptions, maintenance methods, variants, and combat history. Despite some shortcomings, I recommend this book to anyone interested in Cold War tanks.

Une belle présentation historique. L’épopée d’un engin finalement assez rare mais ayant tout de même marqué son temps. On pourrait dire de lui qu’il ne fut jamais le meilleur mais ce serait manquer de justesse aux vues d’un certains nombre des ses innovations.

E' un libro stupendo soprattutto per le foto che contiene. Alcune non le avevo mai viste. però ho trovato qualche informazione inesatta.Galland5
