A fun, clever book to read with your family
This book shows how much fun you can have when the lights go out and you don't have access to your electronics.

Great book, beautiful illustrations
We just received this book from my order a few days ago - so far we've read it every night at bedtime since. My 3 year old son loves it. The illustrations are great and the story is simple the follow. There isn't a whole lot of context here so it leaves a lot of room for discussion and observation. As a parent with a busy schedule and a busy family I could relate to the message and it's inspiring.

Loved this book
The book itself was great. I especially loved the ending, after the lights come back on, and what the family now thinks is important

Out of the dark with BLACKOUT!
Marvelous modern book (I saw the author actually read it at a local meeting) taking what could be a tragedy and turning it into an original idea for children and artists. It has verve and imagination that set it apart from a number of cute and inclusive books on the scene today. John Rocco is a very talented and skilled artist!

One of my favorites
I tried to get my daughter to read this when she was a year old, but she wasn't interested. Now, she is 15 months and loves this book. We talk about all the beautiful frames, and she points at the characters. I love that the protagonist is androgynous too. I can use whatever gender I like when we read through this. All in all, a really beautiful book that we'll read for a long time.

Beautiful illustrations
I ordered this for my school library. It is a Caldecott Honor Award winner for 2012. Most winners of late have been wordless books. I like this one, because it has words that areimportant in our technological age. A little girl wants her family to play a board game with her, but everyone is too busy with phones, computers or house chores. There is a blackoutin the city and, because it is a hot summer night, they head to the roof, where other people are enjoying the beautiful night. The go to the street, and people are enjoying each otherand music, etc. Then the lights are restored. Everyone goes back to the way things were, except the little girl. You'll love the ending. My students really enjoyed the story andthe beautiful illustrations.

Light Energy Lesson
Used this book to add to a 2nd gradE lesson on light energy. My students loved it! So did my kids at home. Great book.

Love it!
I ordered this book for my class of N.Y.C. preschoolers. There are so few children's books set in an urban environment, despite the many children who live in cities across the U.S.A. For the sight of the Brooklyn Bridge alone, I give this five stars!Addendum: I just read this book to my class and they were thoroughly engaged. The illustrations are amazing and the accompanying text is easy to bring to life.
