You Are Stardust

Wow… buy this
This book is incredible. We now include this with all new baby gifts. It’s so sweet and the art is amazing. This is able to communicate my thoughts on life, evolution, connectivity, and existence on a level that my three year old can understand. That’s a pretty incredible gift.

Great Book!
This story had been used as a children's sermon at my church. Prompted me to buy for each of our grandchildren.

Beautiful and important
I bought this book for my niece. I was stunned at the artwork-- it's truly gorgeous. It seems like now, more than ever, we need to feel connected to something and this book is a great way to teach kids that everything is connected, whether we feel it or not. Highly recommend!

We are all made of star stuff
This is a beautifully illustrated book that explains just how we are all made of stardust. The story is wonderful, as is the premise of all life being sacred because it all starts in the same way. We originally checked this one out from the library, but I loved it so much I bought copies for my daughter and my grandbabies to be read to as they grow up.

Nice Artwork~!
My four year old found some excitement for this book. Some of it she already knew, but it was engaging her to ask more questions, and she really enjoyed the art and drawings.

bought this for my science-minded 6 year old's birthday. I do see what the negative reviews are saying that it's not a teaching book - definitely you will be disappointed if you buy this expecting a non-fiction book about space and atoms and nature. There are some wonderful books like that out there (I should know, my kid has amassed quite a collection himself!). I bought this for him because I wanted him to have some poetry, art-y books too, to experience science as more than facts and figures, but as the wonder and connection to the world around him. I will see if he likes it, but as far as I'm concerned, I love it for what it is - a lovely, lyrical book that should spark a child's imagination, but with a basis in real scientific fact.

Paperback seems poorly printed
I notice all the reviews are pre 2017, and the Wayland paperback was published in 2017, so I may be the only reader with this newer version. Sadly I am very disappointed. The book feels cheap and flimsy (the physical cover is the worst part of the book) and the images inside appear dull and flat, which detracts from the dioramas. I suspect all this is the result of cheap printing. Would not recommend the paperback for this reason, but haven't seen the hardback. As for the story and images, it is hard to comment as I am not seeing them at their best, although personally I'd have preferred not to see the strings, which could have been taken out at a later stage with photo editing, as I feel they clutter the images, but perhaps they were kept to emphasise interconnectivity?I usually enjoy dioramas, but this one feels too poorly printed, messy, and sometimes the text feels a little mawkish (eg blowing a kiss to spread pollen) or muddled ('You grow at night when your bones are resting, just like the sheep you count to help you sleep.' - how do sheep relate to growing?). Unless a child asks further questions, the words and text would puzzle a child. I feel the book is full of good intentions, but misses the mark, though I may simply be in a grumpy mood as I am disappointed with the quality of printing.

Absolutely beautiful illustrations, and nice idea for the text
Absolutely beautiful illustrations, and nice idea for the text. My issue with this book is that it doesn't really fit any age group. There is only one line of text per page, making it like a book for a toddler - possibly that little text would bore an older child. But the text itself has words with such complex concepts that I can't imagine a toddler would be able to get anything meaningful from it. For example, atoms are mentioned and the meaning of the word is assumed rather than explained. I'm going to give it to my 4 year old for Christmas anyway and see what he makes of it! At the very least he will love the pictures.

Great
A friend who recently lost her mother and doesn’t want to explain to her son’s using religion so they choose or reject faith for themselves was finding it tough to explain life and death. I sent them the book and it arrived overnight. It’s a short book which has beautiful artwork and despite being for children and simple it genuinely introduces important science concepts and the link between all life. I also got a copy for my family as these concepts are important particularly as the children will live with the increasing pressures of climate change and they need understanding in my opinion. It’s probably not a good book if you’re not interested in science for your kids though.

This book is really beautifully illustrated, I love the 'diorama' style. The text is simple and probably question-provoking for children without going into much detail, so I hope my brother was ready to explain more about how it is that we are made of stardust if asked by my niece :)
