Biggest, Strongest, Fastest

Great informational text for young readers or struggling older readers
I am tutoring a little boy via Zoom and we learned suffixes (-er and -est), so this was the PERFECT read to practice endings and learn about animals. I LOVE Steve Jenkins's books. Plus it is great to have a digital version so we can read together while I share my screen. I also love, "Actual Size."

Cool facts
The book is great for little ones. Love the size image comparison to humans for each animal. My only issues is that the book focused only on animals and mostly mammals. I would have liked for the book to have included the smallest living thing (bacteria) and the oldest living thing (bristle cone pines) and the tallest living things (sequoias). I just think kids need to know there are living things beyond animals.

I'd recommend newer Steve Jenkins Books...
I love Steve Jenkins' books/illustrations, and have collected every one of his books and often give them as gifts. Unfortunately, I feel this one isn't as stunning of some of his more recent work. The colors aren't as vibrant, the illustrations aren't as complex, and the concept isn't as creative.I'd go with some of the newer work: Never Smile at a Monkey, Top of the World..., Actual Size, My First Day, or my personal favorite: What Do You Do With A Tail Like This? That being said, it should be noted that Biggest, Strongest, Fastest was published more than a decade before many of the ones I listed, which means that unlike many authors/illustrators who create 2nd rate knockoffs of their successful books, Steve Jenkins is constantly improving...both in illustrative quality and in story creativity. Some of his more recent work deserves 5/5 stars, if not 6, because he accomplishes not only the most incredible/unique illustrations, but comes up with such fun and creative story lines...allowing children to interact with the books.

Great educational book
The author has written many other similar beautifully illustrated books about the facts of animal biology. The text is largely fact based but presents an opportunity for the reader and child to talk about and imagine exotic animals.

great
Great for kids from 4 years up. We explore the animals' world looking for the fastest of them, the bigggest , the smallest etc. On each page there is a man drawn by the animal so the kids could comper the sizes and imagine easily the difference. My boys students 5-6 years old were really excited when reading it.
