12 cubic foot black retro refrigerator
So far I'm really enjoying this refrigerator. It's one of the few refrigerators on the market that fits the space I'm working on. I'ts tall enough to fit more stuff in than the typical 10 cubic foot fridge, and its width is perfect for me-- deep enough to fit a lot of food, but not too deep that things are getting lost in the back. I like the can storage in the door too. I can hear the fridge motor turn on, but I don't think it's loud. It uses about 300 watts per hour, which is not too much power for a full size refrigerator. The things I put in the freezer have stayed frozen, and items i get out of the fridge are cold, so It's working just fine so far. I also love the retro look.

So far so good
So far so good. It does take a bit to cool down but after about 4 hours it got cool and has stayed cool. Noise level is normal. Good value, so far. Looks great tol.. Will update in 3-6 months

Don't Buy It No Matter How Cute It Is
I bought this for a friend as a birthday gift, as her old fridge had finally given up. At first she loved it-- so cute, just the right size for the kitchen. Well, within a few months, the problems started. It iced up. Really badly. She defrosted it (and you thought the days of having to defrost a fridge were long over!), and within a couple of months, it iced up again. And again. And again. I'm no appliance expert, but it's pretty clear the defrost timer was bad. Google says this is a known problem with these fridges. Galanz customer service was no help at all. She contacted them a number of times before they replied with something other than vague, bad-translation English, canned responses. They don't service their fridges, as it turns out-- only give a refund if you complain repeatedly. Fortunately, my friend is a determined woman, and she kept at them, sending photos, descriptions of the problem, and order receipts several times. At last they said they were putting a refund in the mail. After 6 weeks, no refund. She contacted them yet again, and they made a million excuses-- problem with the courier (courier? now the USPS is a courier, seriously?), unexpectedly long "processing times," blah blah blah. She finally got the refund but minus the sales tax. Yep. After contacting them a final time, they said they don't refund the sales tax. This can't be legal. Don't buy this pretty but really crappy fridge. The good reviews are from people who just got it. Check out the ones from people who've owned it for more than 5 minutes.

Stylish Retro Fridge with Solid Performance
Great retro design with practical functionality. 12 cu ft capacity is ideal for my apartments Like the glass adjustable shelves for easy organization. The adjustable thermostat and frost-free operation make it simple to maintain consistent cooling without manual defrosting

Good fridge with a few small quirks
I've been using this fridge for just over a year now and I'm very happy with it overall. There's lots of space inside and the fridge shelves have a good selection of height options to accommodate all kinds of stuff. There has been no ice build up, but some stuff that gets pushed near the back of the fridge sometimes will start to freeze or develop frost. I wish the freezer had a second option for shelf positioning. The shelf can only go in the middle so I've had a few instances where I had to get creative with the layout of stuff inside. Once or twice I've had to repackage something because there was just barely not enough room to go in with the original packaging. The other thing I don't like is the bottom door shelf. It's tiny so you're limited with what you can store there and it's easily blocked from view by the shelves directly above it that extend farther out. It's pretty quiet as well. My dog's water fountain sits next to the fridge and I can clearly hear their water moving around more than I notice the fridge aside from the brief moment when the compressor kicks on. Most of the time the fridge is completely silent.

very pretty smallish retro fridge
Update after one year. Somehow, the freezer control got stuck on colder and it's been freezing to -20. I tried to unstick the control knob and was able to move it to a less cold setting but I heard something crack and fall. I hope it was ice, not the plastic control mechanism. Now I'm watching to see if it's still cooling/freezing and the knob has frozen again, in a lower setting. The refrigerator section seems to be cooling just fine and I may have figured out how to prevent the freezing and breaking of glass bottles in the lower part. I love the way this fridge looks. Wish it was easier to maintain it. I bought this refrigerator for it's retro design which fits nicely in my old home, and as a single person, I wanted to downsize to something rather small. I bought the 12 cubic feet model which is on the larger end of the Galanz retro refrigerators but much smaller than my old fridge. It looks great and is a perfect look in my kitchen. When I looked at other reviews I noticed a lot of dented doors upon delivery, but I hoped that I would be lucky and not get a dented one. Unfortunately, I was one of the unlucky people who got a dented door. It was then I found out that customer service is virtually non-existant with this company. They told me that I could send in a photo of the dent and ask for a partial refund which would be reviewed within 6-8 weeks and might or might not be approved. OK..... Now I am struggling with the temperature settings which, when set on #3, medium coldness, froze and broke a rootbeer bottle, on two separate occasions. filling the refrigerator with rootbeer. The first time was right after I got the fridge set up and I thought - oh well, better not put the soda bottles at the back of the fridge while I figure out the settings. But it happened again. The second time I cleaned all the rootbeer out of the fridge and washed all the shelves which had rootbeer splashed all over, and then the glass crisper cover shattered in the sink when I set it in with the other shelves. And this is where customer service really became scarce. You cannot just go the Galanz web site and buy a replacement shelf. You can't call the customer service line and order a replacement. My call was put in a queue on each of the times I tried to call, and when it was my turn in the queue, I got an automated message that they couldn't take my call right now. No one was manning their phones. I finally got ahold of someone, not sure how with all the calls I was making, who told me to filed a claim and request the replacement crisper cover. Heaven only knows how long it will take to process this claim but they did acknowledge receipt of my claim. So now I'm waiting, and while I wait for someone to process my claim and sent me a new crisper shelf, I have lost the use of that shelf, meaning I have much less room for food storage. I appreciate the attractive refrigerator and the appealing marketing for the Galanz retro line but it unconscioutionable to offer a product and not offer replacement parts. Really, shelves? Since their shelf shatters to easily, they should really make a replacement readily available. I hope their customer service improves. I've never dealt with such an infuriating company. I'm plannning to go to my hardware store to see if they can give me a sheet of tempered glass that can serve as a temporary cover/shelf for the crisper and I'm still working on getting the settings right and making sure I dont' get anymore frozen bottles. In summary, love the look of the fridge but wish common replacement parts like shelves, were obtainable!!!

12 cu ft manual defrost model
I bought this fridge to replace my 15 yr old one when its compressor gave out. It's really nice fridge. Some initial observations: 1. Handles are plastic, not chrome. However I don't think it should be an issue as opening the door doesn't put a lot of pressure on them. I would prefer chrome but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. 2. There's no fan cooling the compressor on the back. My guess is it's because this is a narrower model 28 in vs. average 30 in. My old fridge had a fan but it was 30 in wide. 3. It is very quiet. 4. The freezer has a cold and colder temp adjustment. I set mine on cold and it was enough to keep food frozen. 5. Just to be on a safe sight I didn't plug it in for 24 hrs to allow coolant to set as I didn't know how it was stored in the warehouse or on the delivery truck (it should be stored upright). 6. The fridge uses R600 coolant as opposed to R134 freon. It is more environmentally friendly but it is flammable (freon is not). It looks like R600 is replacing freon though the 1st night I had nightmares about the fridge exploding. I used to keep a toaster oven on top of the old one, but will not on top of this one. The flammable coolant is the reason for 4 stars. 7. The instructions asked for removing a plastic film from a drain plug, but I think it applies to self defrosting models, not the manual defrosting one like this. I couldn't find a drain plug anywhere inside the fridge.
