Dr. James L. Hutchinson is a pioneering Black physician who was one of the first doctors of Color to set up medical practice in the SF Peninsula. Now incredibly, at the age of 97, he is still engaged in solo family medicine practice from the charming Victorian house/office in San Mateo, he established in 1952. This book is a reminiscence of meaningful events, social encounters, and self-revelations acquired over his many years. Collectively, one can sense how these occurrences helped to shape this child of the Deep South to become the wise healer and consoler he remains today. Each chapter is a short vignette - told in a remarkably frank and insightful narrative. Well written, entertaining, and easy reading. He was my Doctor From childhood to years past my retirement. He would still be if I hadn't moved. This book enlightened me regard his amazing personal life from Childhood to becoming a senior citizen still working.
