Useful
This is a great aid for preparing for the oral board exam. It is a classic for a reason. Even with the oral board format changing soon this is still a great educational tool to use with residents during conference.

Cases, Cases, Cases, Pass!
My wife used this to pass her EM boards recently. I played examiner for many of these cases, and it was easy for me to help her study despite the fact that I'm not an ER doc. Some medical background is probably very helpful if you plan to play "examiner" and help someone with the cases. Plenty of cases were included, and there is good detail on what would be considered "critical actions" versus other points to know. It was sometimes hard to show EKGs or imaging pictures without showing the rest of the text to give the case away, but easily remedied with a piece of scratch paper.

Very helpful for exam
I haven't read the book yet but my friend had ER board exam and she read the book in 4 days and found it very very helpful!

I just don't think its the best. I read the whole book and it helped ...
I don't understand why this book is as popular as it is. Don't get me wrong though....it is still worth it. I just don't think its the best. I read the whole book and it helped me review the medicine in General. It's the excellent number of cases that works but they don't go into the detail I would like. If you have few people to practice with it is not intuitive for your "examiner" to administer. I wish they listed the doses as they went (if it is a medicine we should have memorized) and for the burn case they had they didn't even say what percentage of burn they calculated. True, this is all stuff you could look up in other books but I want to know about THAT case. The little review of high yield facts is good. I think they best book is First Aid for the oral boards and was really hoping a new edition would come out. It is the best for using with another person (especially if your examiner has less medical background). First Aid lists, over and over, exactly what you should say and goes in great detail (sometimes painfully so) for each case. I felt first aid book is ideal for initial study. This book though is an excellent addition to the First Aid book. If you have little time get First Aid, if more get BOTH. I did not try Rivers. I took the review course in Chicago Illinois ACEP; it was AMAZING. It was intense but worth it. I figure anyone reading this review is looking for oral board study material advice :)

A must for oral boards
There are only two books out there for oral board review really, this one and first aid. I went with this one because of its track record. Very helpful for a good review as read through alone, and great for use for practice with someone. Only negative would be that some of the practice methods are outdated

Review for EM oral boards
Nice case review for my oral boards which is scheduled in October. Ideally, this book should be used with a friend or colleague who is in the medical field. You could still review the case on your own pace, but you have to be diligent not to see the results as the case unfolds. Most of the high yield points relative to EM are mentioned in this book.

Great for preparing for the ABEM Oral Boards
This was accurate and only had some minor typos that are easy to get through.
