Not just an excellent rail guide, but an excellent travel guide
Don't let the diminutive size of this book fool you. Inside is a really, really good travel guide. The book is divided into the following sections:Planning your trip (all the practical stuff, including booking, types of trains and carriages, climate, wildlife, etc...)Canada (the historical and cultural contexts)Railway History (exactly what it sounds like, history of the road and the trains)City Guides (the largest section which contains the city maps, sites, lodgings and restaurants)Route Guide and Maps (route maps and mile-by-mile highlights)Timetables (exactly what it sounds like)French Words & Phrases (small section of essentials)IndexIn between all this wonderful stuff are sections of lovely color photographs of cities, landscapes, trains, etc... The writing style is engaging and interesting, conveying the author's enthusiasm for the country and its culture. Listings are selective but are excellent representative samples. You're not going to go wrong with Graham's recommendations as I concur with her choices on my recent trips to Vancouver and Toronto. She chooses listings that are convenient for rail travelers and she also has a bent towards heritage travel. I like that. There are abbreviated sections for Jasper and far-flung Churchill, but don't mistake this book for a guide to Canada's Rocky Mountain national parks. It is not that. The guide stays pretty close to the railroad. These Trailblazer rail guides are excellent in general. I've used the Trans-Siberia guide for years as a standard travel guide for that part of Russia. No doubt that this guide will become my standard for travel along the urban backbone of Canada. It's superb.

Font size is fine and perfectly normal for a travel guidebook
Prior to purchase, I noted a number of negative comments regarding font size. Now that I have the book in hand, yes, the font size is small, but entirely consistent with all the other travel guidebooks I own such as Fodor's, Moon, Lonely Planet and others. The challenge all such travel guides face is that they need to cover as much material as possible but be small in size for the traveler to lug around. Ergo, they all tend to have small fonts. Also, you are not likely to read them cover to cover in a sitting, but rather from time to time for specific references of interest. So, for its intended purpose and use, the font size is satisfactory.

SMALLEST FONT ON THE PLANET!
I have wanted this book for so long as I am taking The Canadian in 2021 (fingers crossed). I was waiting to see if there was a 7th edition, but decided to order it anyway. HOLY MOLY! I will have to use a magnifying glass to read this book! EVERY PAGE, including the maps! I also did not realize just how small this book actually is! It is 7 inches high and 5 inches wide. You know, a bit bigger than a postcard! Now, I have 20/20 eyesight with my glasses, but I did not want to carry a magnifying glass on my trip! I love books, so I guess I will keep it, but I am sorely tempted to get a refund and send this tiny tome back to Amazon...

Must read with a magnifying glass
I have 20:20 vision and need a large magnifying glass to read this book. Can't imagine why this would have been printed so small. Guess the proof-reader must have missed it. Have highlighted a few lines or would definitely return. If you buy this book, be absolutely certain you want to keep it before making any marks. Extremely disappointed.

Portable & usefully specific to trains
Liked this because it's smallish, so easier to carry around in rucksack. Also cos it's focused on train travel rather than assuming car or air travel & has plenty of detailed info on buying correct tickets .
