Great Story
Great story. I really enjoyed Stefan Ahnhem’s first book in this series ‘Victim Without A Face’, and this book is just as good. The plot is elaborate and suspenseful, with quite a diverse range of characters. The story also moves along at a good pace, with plenty of things happening along the way that kept my interest. It’s certainly a series that I would like to see continue.Detective Fabian Risk is used to conducting murder investigations, and certainly not looking for missing persons. However, he can’t say no when Sepo ask for his help in locating Carl-Eric Grmias, the Minister for Justice, who has suddenly gone missing. Even though Sepo would like Fabian to keep this news quiet, he’s not about to keep it from his partner, Detective Marlin Rehnberg. Especially since he will need her help. Mind you he doesn’t want her overdoing it, as Marlin is currently pregnant with twins. Detective Dunja Hougaard has her own problems with Karen Newman being murdered. The last thing she wants is a high-profile murder to investigate, but unfortunately, she can’t pick and choice in her line of work. Without doubt this is an enjoyable book that I would certainly recommend.

Breathless
Refreshing and not only because it's winter time in Sweden! It's always enthralling to start a book ... while discovering a country through the writer's eyes!

trash book
This thriller seems to be written for teenagers: the world, crimes and situations are completely unrealistic. And the personages? The DI Risk who has a gun and is not able to shoot while two of his colleagues are killed, the pregnant detective (with twins!) who is participating in dangerous police operations, embassy of Israel where the victims are dissected and their organs sold for transplantation ... It is incredibly boring trash.

Excellent Scandinavian crime novel
This is the prequel of the Fabian Risk series.Ahnhem has produced a marvellous work, indeed. A tightly woven plot takes the reader through a series of events which at first would appear unconnected, but eventually all the threads are drawn together in a well-crafted denouement.Ahnhem's characters are rounded, very human and very believable. His mastery of the environment in which the action takes place is commendable. The prose is ideally suited to the subject matter (even in translation) and never intrudes, but flows naturally.Fabian Risk is a welcome addition to the much-loved collection of Scandinavian detectives, and I look forward to his next adventure.Definitely a must-read for all lovers of good detective fiction and highly recommended.
