I eat their eggs so for me non-gmo Organic is absolutely essential for my health too. You can tell a massive between small batch and big box feed. These small batch seeds have quality control and no waste material in them, they have definitely grown under better conditions than large company seeds. Yes, pricey but long term I’m planning for not having to pay for medication or treatments (for both the birds and myself compared to if I consumed eggs after chickens ate seeds with toxic spray) so I just cut some of my personal, regular expenses I don’t really need for my survival ;) Very happy costumers and been subscribing for years

12/2020 UPDATE: Been meaning to give an upgraded 5-star rating to this feed. My girl has gotten used to eating the peas whole. they actually loo smaller than I remember from the first time I bought a bag (shrug). This is a quality feed that produces the most beautiful ripe, mango hued yokes, with a fantastic buttery flavor profile. I will continue to purchase and recommend this top quality brand. Original review: My rescue chicken had been eating homemade feed (totally spoiled her!) but I wanted something more complete in case I was missing nutrients. This layer feed looks beautiful and smells so wholesome. My girl is a bit finicky. I've slowly introduced her to this feed little by little. As others have commented the peas are to big for her to eat; she leaves them. I hate waste. To solve this issue, I laboriously take each pea out of her meal and give it a quick whiz in the processor. It would be great if the company would simply just use split peas. If there was a reason to not repurchase that would be it. Other than that it's a quality feed. I feel good feeding it to my beloved girl.

Love this feed for my chickens I could tell a huge difference in the egg shells

Chickens love this as scratch. Contains healthy ingredients not found with other brands. However the packaging leaks hence the 4 stars and not 5. I can appreciate saving the Earth from the over use of plastic, but the feed leaks out of the cardboard box since the box is not sealed at all and contents are not contained. In addition, the box is used as a shipping box as well. There's no telling how much feed was lost during transit? Just sitting on a table moved around here and there I lost at least 1/4 cup. I have to keep it indoors away from bugs since a box is bulkier than a bag in my storage container.

This layer feed is really nice. My girls love it. Never had a problem with the packaging until today. Somewhere along the line the box was opened and I lost about 1/4 of my feed. They half assed taped the box shut and delivered it. The feed is great...the delivery was not.

So, almost all backyard chicken owners know that chicken scratch is to chickens like a bag of candy to children...they absolutely love it BUT it is so very bad for both! Chicken scratch makes chickens fat which leads to all sorts of health problems AND can cause the girls to stop laying! Why do I bring this up? Because I purchase a 10 lb bag of Small Pet Select Layer Feed because it contains NO SOY, NO CORN as well as being Non-GMO and I wanted to see how my girls liked it...well, the results were amazing! My girls went after this feed like it was scratch candy and emptied their feed bowl like they hadn't had a decent meal since day one! This feed is absolutely the BEST and by the way my girls eat it up, I am converted. The bonus is I have a neighbor friend who has family members that can't have any foods that contain soy and that includes eggs where the chickens have been fed feed that contains soy and soy products. She is now a loyal purchasing neighbor of my eggs because I have shown her this feed that is completely soy-free. Most feed is packed with soy and corn as a "filler" and it really has hardly any nutritional value to the girls so once you open the bag and see all of the great ingredients, you too will be convinced. Yes, the feed is a little pricey, but my girls and my friends are worth it!

I am a first time backyard chicken owner. My hens are young, 22 weeks. I know next to nothing about feeding chickens, but was drawn to this particular brand because of the packaging. I try to avoid plastic packaging when I can. With that being said, I started giving my birds this feed when they were about 17 weeks old since that is when my grower feed ran out. One of my chickens started laying eggs last week, and I could not have been prouder. The eggs are small, of course, but all are gorgeous eggs- lovely, dark yellow yolks. Maybe those eggs would have been the exact same with a different layer feed, but I have my doubts. This feed actually looks like real food- different colors and seeds and everything! When I fill up their feeder, I put some food in my cupped hands and my chickens act like I am serving them caviar and champagne, for crying out loud! Those busybodies gobble up the food out of my hands like it is the best thing that has ever passed their beaks. (As an aside, I also purchased the oyster shells from this brand. Again, because of the packaging. I regularly see Coco Channel, the chicken who is laying eggs, stopping by the dispenser and helping herself to a couple of flakes.)
