SAS EXPANDER - NEEDS TO BE USED WITH A HBA
Ok, first from the picture I was not sure which connectors were on this card. Turns out they are the older MIN-SAS SFF-8087 connector. So make sure you buy the correct cables to go between your SAS HBA and this card. Recommended connection is port 1 on your HBA to port 1 on this SAS Expander, and port 2 on your HBA to PORT 2 on this SAS Expander. This expander supports SAS 3 (12 Gb) links, but is fully compatible with SAS 2 (6 Gb) links! So if you have an LSI 9300-8i or similar HBA, all 8 SAS lines will work together for great throughput to/from this card! If you have an older LSI 9207-8i or similar HBA, it will still work great, but at a reduced link speed. So depending on how many and what types of drives, you may or may not see an overall difference in speed between those two HBAs.It just works, and WORKS WELL! Current pricing make this a killer deal! Also, the card plug into a PCIe slot, not for data, but for POWER. The card is useless without a compatible HBA connected with it.

Awesome deal!
I didn’t realize an “expander” was even a thing. My new server board has a limited number of PCI-E ports and this saved me one I used to 10gbps Ethernet

Good, please read
Hi so I got this dev, about 4 months ago and at first it didn't work, it took me about a month to figure out what was wrong and how to flash my SAS dell h310 HBA to IT mode before it started recognizing hard drivesIt looks like if you have a controller that does Drive mapping this device is not going to work, you have to flash the SAS controller to IT mode and remove Drive mapping out of the way for the expander to work. It's been 4 months and it's working great running it under trueness with ZFS file system
