An Amazing Box Set
As a fan of Johnny Cash I enjoyed this box set very much. I got to hear albums I had never heard before. This is a terrific overview of his amazing career at Columbia.

LOVE IT, BUT THERE ARE QUESTION...
My wife got me the "Johnny Cash Complete Columbia" box for our anniversary, and it is simply amazing! There's so much to listen to and learn from this monstrous body of work. I love the small vinyl replicas and back covers with all the information. Nice and informative booklet, although I wish they had the duration of each song, not only in tiny writing on the CD's back covers, but also in the booklet. I was afraid that the case itself would be kind of wabbly and thin. That would be dangerous for supporting the weight of 63 CD's! Well, I was very happy to see that the box is very sturdy and has a beautiful old stylish silver shading.Just great!! I don't have any problems with the mono mixing for the first 19 discs and I think they all sound clean, loud and the songs don't lack any depth or punch! There are a few things I don't understand though...In the booklet, under the list of musicians for albums like "Hymns by J. Cash", and "Songs of our Soil" there's mention of "Unknown vocal chorus". From my understanding The Jordanaires were also part of those albums providing the additional vocals. On Wikipedia The Jordanaires are mentioned as backing vocals for the two albums I mentioned above. So, who is right? Rich Kienzle and his production team or the ol' internet? Also, Wikipedia says,(Yes, I'm a pain and I research and compare a lot - but I have a normal job too) that "From Sea to Shining Sea" was released in January '68. The box says 1967. It's really not a big deal. I just think that a collection such as this box set should give you 110% confidence that you are reading the most accurate facts. Yet still I found some small diversities. One last thing is the fact that, I just found out that "Greatest Hits Vol.1" (released between "Happiness is You" and "Carryin' On" was not included.(??) I understand that "Destination Victoria Station" was a special release at the time, only found at Victoria station restaurants, making it kind of not part of normal releases, but "Greatest Hits"?Well, enough about comparing and other oddities. I love this box set and if you want to earn a piece of music history and understand why Johnny Cash was and is a tremendous influence not only to country, but to all sorts of musicians, listen to this collection. It will set you on fire!

Great Music! Poor Package!
I have been counting the days to get my hands on this set. When it came in the mail the box was damaged. It is like so many movie and music sets now days nice looking if you never touch it. The outer box is a cheap cardboard that has a lid that opens on the top. If you open and close the lid too many times it will tear. The cd cases inside are cardboard to look like original albums. Nice but tight in the box and not something you want to be sliding too much. The discs will scratch if you keep taking them in and out. So I will buy sixty blank cases and stack them up after I copy them to my ipod. Just what you need when you have lots of stuff. There is info about the set on a seperate sheet of paper glued to the outside of the box on the back and bottom. Since I want to keep this intact I will be putting the box in a ziplock bag. Another thing to mention is that if you bought many of the Legacy Recordings over the past few years keep them for the bonus tracks. The albums in this set are true to the original records. There are no bonus tracks on them.So I gave the set 5 stars and have pointed out all the negatives. I always get upset when people ding a product because of things like packaging. Yes Amazon sent me a damaged item and I will be asking for another one. As annoying as this may be it should be about the music inside. Johnny Cash is always wonderful to hear and many of these titles have never been on cd. It is a great collection and I am happy to own it. Everything is here from the Columbia years. I was happy to get the Gospel Road on cd.Now if you buy all the Sun recordings and the two deluxe box prison sets along with the American Recordings including the box set of unreleased American recordings and the Mercury stuff you will own the entire discography. Buy it!

John R Cash, best Country/Western Singer
In bought this set and I loved it. I listened to the 63 CD’s. One after the other until I was done doing it! If I may say so, no easy accomplishment. Took me three days. His music is fun to listen to. Also, recommend the Mercury Releases, The Personal Files and the American Recordings. If I may say so, ass time passed by, his music became much much better. The American Recordings were his last work. Very mature work, simply loved it.But going back to the box set, it is wonderful. Columbia records should consider adding later releases that were available AFTER the release of the box set, just to be completist!Out Among the Stars, Man In Black Johnny Cash Live in Denmark 1971 & Live From Austin, TX. Also, Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison and At San Quentin Should be Double CD’s instead of the Compilations depicted in the Box Set. Other than that, everything was just fine.Thank you,JH

Buy All of My Music from Amazon
This Columbia Collection was purchased as a Christmas gift for my son. It makes life so much easier to just ask what him he wants, he sends me a text, I put in the cart, press order and presto. Xmas shopping is done.

Massive, but worth it
This is a massive collection, and basically a dream come true for true-blue Cash fans. Even Elvis as far as I know has never received this treatment (though he should). Casual fans and those whose interest with Cash begins and ends with A Boy Named Sue will think this is overkill to the extreme as almost everything, the good and the bad and a lot of in-between, is here. But I have never come across such a thorough examination of a man's career (or at least about 35 years of a career). The presentation is fantastic and it was great of them to include a disc of Sun highlights through they may as well have added a couple more discs for the whole set. The title is slightly misleading as not every album Cash recorded for Columbia is here. In 1975 he recorded a promo album called Destination Victoria Station that included new versions of old hits as well as a few new tracks. He also recorded a gospel album called A Believer Sings the Truth which was first released on a non-Columbia label but was later reissued (in edited form) as the Columbia album I Believe. Most disappointing is the omission of the four Columbia/Legacy Bootleg volumes that were released several years before this set came out (one of which included the aforementioned Believer album). If someone is going to invest $300 you might as well include everything. But this is minor complaint; this box set is amazing and well worth the investment, even if you might get sick at hearing I Still Miss Someone over and over again! Now let's see American and Mercury put out some "complete" sets of their own. P.S. It should be noted that except for the Sun album "With His Hot and Blue Guitar," which is expanded to include more than a dozen additional Sun tracks, all the albums are presented as they were originally released on vinyl LP or (in the case of the later recordings) CD, which means no extra tracks beyond what people originally saw when they bough the records in 1958, 1967, 1976, etc. If you want the longer versions of the Folsom and San Quentin concerts you still need the Legacy editions and a number of albums such as The Johnny Cash Children's Album have also been reissued with bonus tracks that are not included in the versions here.

Cinque stelle
Si trovano la maggior parte di dischi prodotti durante 40 anni di attivita con Sun Records e Columbia. Mancano ovviamente gli anni quando Johnny a lavorato con Mercury e American Records
