great value and decent quality
As of Jul 2025: some have complained about quality of alligator clips, my set work perfectly fine. Yes, instructions are lacking. For example, after you remove the screw to install the supplied 9V battery, there's nothing about it. Some say the "+" symbol is faint on the plastic. On my set, there is mo marking (even using) a flashlight. As another user mentioned, plus (+)/is on the left when viewing from the rear. Some said battery was almost impossible to install. If you put the battery bottom in first, it goes in smoothly. Also took the time to mark the "+" so next time battery replacement is easier. I was a bit surprised in size and weight. It's fairly large and fairly heavy, FYI. Nice touch it comes with two sets of leads. I'm happy so far, esp. the value.

18B+: An amazing meter for its price-point. 9v battery is a plus. Nice display.
Comparing a $20 unit to some high-end Fluke or Hioki is unfair. It is very impressive what this multi-meter can do. Even five years ago, this price-point with this high performance would have been unthinkable. It uses a 9v battery -- much better choice than those AA (and certainly AAA) batteries that leak so easily, best to avoid! Battery insertion could be more snug, that is the only physical improvement I can suggest. The rear compartment opens easily. The supplied leads are decent, not the high-end obviously, but superb for a $20 unit! There are two pairs! I would prefer to use my own silicone gold-plated leads.Nice big numeral display, and it also back-lights very nicely. Very nice standard layout of switch/buttons. The selector switch is smooth. At Room temperature, these results were verified against a high-end Fluke, in a very quick round of testing:Accuracy: AC RMS voltage measurement of 120v mains was surprisingly very accurate. Frequency measurement was dead on -- this counter is, from a design point of this low cost meter, the easiest reading to be accurate about, IMO; However the duty cycle was very slightly off -- surprisingly -- and is not an issue at all. I don't know who would test duty cycles. (Not tested are different duty cycles/frequencies/harmonics for broader RMS calculations)Measuring DC voltages: of 1.5 volt and 9 volt batteries was very accurate. Didn't use any reference power supply here, just these dry batteries.Continuity measurement: The meter is decently fast in responding to continuity tests -- the buzzer beeps decent fast. Very good thing.Didn't do any current measurements or capacitance tests. As mentioned above, this was just a quick test at room temperature. No insulation tests or safety tests were conducted -- where a high-end meter will certainly deliver, but I have no idea about this one. No thermal or physical shock testing is done.Overall conclusion: an amazing multi-meter for its price-point, and it gets all its basic features right. Accurate!Surprisingly good feeling holding the unit. The overall package was nicely put together. Can't ask for anything more of a $20 unit, really. I hope it performs well over long time: TBD.

Impressive tool for a mere Jackson
I have an old twenty years plus Wavetek DM that is still functional but mostly left in a garage for auto related work. That one cost me over a Benjamin. Today modern digital multimeter (DM) is much cheaper and works much better. What is not to like. For those who are not familiar with using the DM my recommend is to google for user guide for Fluke or Wavetek or Agilent DM products. They are operated on the same principles but they have better user guides. The most important is to observe safety first. A current of 200mA can cause a severe injury. Above that can be deadly. Safety first is to never ground yourself while making a measurement on live circuit. Wear a plastic glove if possible. Don't wear loose clothes or wear anything that conductive to live circuit. Stay away from wet area or wet hand or feet. Tag in and tag out. That means if you work on a home electrical make sure to tag a breaker that you are working on and remove tagger when you are done. If you don't someone who might not know why it was turnoff and accidentally turn it back on while you are working on it. Someone fried you is no good neither frying yourself.Using the DM itself is pretty straight forward. The banana clip has booth to protect the metal from touching you if it were accidentally fell off the DM device. This can be deadly if that happened as I saw sometime the protective booth is removed or cut off to make it convenience to plug into the unit. Don't do it. The probe came with this item is not snug when plugged in. It is kind of want to fall off. Quality probe provides better fit. What I don't like is that the off switch is all the way to the right. It should be on the middle of the dial so I don't have to flip it from one end to another to turn it off. The battery cover is secured in place with two screws and I like to have no screw at all for convenience of taking out the battery when not in use. I don't use my DM often, so a battery left in a unit has a tendency to corrode the terminals. I like they provided a soft protective shell which is very convenience to store the probe. Kudo for that. All it all this is pretty good a product for the money. I wished I had this when I was younger when I had more time to tinker with electronics.
