Packed with easy to digest info and activities
This Key Stage 3 text book covers the syllabus for what children are currently studying for History (1066-1558), regarding the two periods of British History: the Middle Ages and the early Tudors. The book is broken down into 9 chapters and each chapter is split into several sections – each containing readable and easy to digest information, along with activities and/or tasks to complete. Rather than big blocks of text (like text books used to be in my day), the sections are displayed in wonderfully presented “chunks” pointing out important fact and interpretations and blocks to make you think and analyse the information. There is a great combination of written and visual information, including cartoons and well-annotated diagrams. There is also an assessment section at the end of each chapter, giving children a chance to test what they have learned as they go along, which is helpful and one of the chapters half way through is dedicated to an in-depth study. My son is twelve and has just finished Year 7 and has already touched on some of the subjects in this book, which will be expanded upon as he continues. Although he loves History, he is eager to work through this book in his own time during the holidays, which speaks volumes as to how good it is!As a parent, I am really impressed with this book – both with the content and the way it is presented and delivered and I only wish books had been like this when I was at school! I have found myself reading it too and enjoying it. I would say that even children who do not usually enjoy history would struggle not to find this book enjoyable. Top marks to the author. This book is well worth getting for your children to help with their learning in a way that isn’t a chore.
