Spiritual Intelligence: The Ultimate Intelligence

Spiritual Intelligence as Inquiry or Practicum?
Zohar's Spiritual Intelligence is just so much more well-presented that my first introduction to SQ ... makes more sense to me, and is a broader treatment than those which purport to tell you how to manipulate other people for your personal dominance (i.e. SQ21: The Twenty-One Skills of Spiritual Intelligence by Cindy Wigglesworth.) For folks who want to use this perceptive world-view to better understand and anticipate their fellow humans, this book is edifying and satisfying, opening another dimension in how we interact with others --most valuable to a new-to-fiction-writing author. However, as a former technical writer and trainer, I will say that if you want this thinking reduced to how you can use it to skillfully manage a work-crew, sell lots of product, perform political wonders, the SQ21 will probably suit you much better -- a practical toolbox for achievement. Guess I will try to share this same review on the Wigglesworth book.

Great point of view to intelligence
Danah Zohar and Ian Marshall introduces SQ as one of the most fundamental forms of intelligence. The spiritually dumb and Newtonian society doesn’t recognize the most important part and missing link of intelligence. SQ answers to many questions you have tried to answer. We are love and we are all one.

This is an excellent book. It opens up the topic of spirituality in a way that provides insight and inspiration for people who are spiritually independent. There are many editions of this book, some with different titles, and some which come from Great Britain. As far as I can tell, they all contain the same material. I needed this book on short notice, and was glad I found this edition.

The first half is fabulous. The second not so much.
I really, really wanted to give this five stars. The subject is crucial and under-explored. Zohar writes exceptionally well. But her argument about the existence and importance of this human capability peters out and dies after about halfway through. There is far too much neuroscience reporting here (is this Ian Marshall's contribution?), much of which is highly speculative anyhow. If I were the editor, I would have argued for 10 pages on this, not half the book.

Five Stars
A balanced assertion of what SQ really is, marrying spirit and science.

SQ is the soul’s intelligence, the one with which we make ourselves whole.
SQ is the soul’s intelligence, the one with which we make ourselves whole. Danah gives 6 personality types, and discusses ways to be spiritually stunted or spiritually intelligent for each. SQ not connected to religion; can be religious and spiritually stunted or viceversa. More people have religious exp outside the confines of mainstream religious institutions than within them. Danah gives also good Evidence. Has been demonstrated in 90s that there is a ‘God spot’ in the brain, located among neural connections in the temporal lobes; activated during discussion of spiritual topics. Also that there is a neural process in the brain devoted to unifying and giving meaning to our experience – the ‘binding problem’. Singer found synchronous neural oscillations across the whole brain. Previously we only knew 2 forms of brain neural organisation: serial neural connections which allow rational thought, and neural networks in which bundles of up to 100,000 neural connections are connected to other bundles – these form basis of EQ, our emotion-driven, pattern-recognising, habit-building intelligence. Indications of high SQ are this according do Danah Flexibility Self-awareness Capacity to face and use suffering Capacity to face and transcend pain Quality of being inspired by vision and values Reluctance to cause unnecessary harm Tendency to see connection between diverse things Tendency to ask why, what if, and to seek answers Facility to work against convention Servant leader
