Yes, this product is more pounds for less money, but there are stems, dust and whole corn, (that my chickens have no clue what to do with). Maybe the pelletized feed I used to buy had that crap ground up and pelletized, but at least the pellets weren't broadcast 2.5 feet around a little quart jar feeder, out in their run. When I say "dust" I'm talking about way more than other feeds I've used. It also took a week to arrive and I'm in the same state as the shipper?

3 stars but I must say it is still my favorite product. My lower rating is because I have received a bag that seem to have been exposed to moisture and the bottom of the bag had a solid moldy smelly chunk I threw out. It is quality feed but not cheap and I was unhappy to throw out 4 -5 pounds and more important I worried about mold and had to make some effort to assure the remaining feed was completely dry. The hens love it and are thriving on it though.

My hens seem to take their time going through this feed. And they lay more consistently. These are NOT pellets. It looks a little like scratch, but has a lot of good stuff in it like probiotics and other grains. My chickens seem very healthy on it. I put them on Costco organic feed for a month, and they ate an entire 40lb bag. Two of them also stopped laying as often. In contrast, they eat a little under half of this in a month, and their egg production is more consistent. Note that my chickens also free range.This company is also awesome. They went out of their way to ship this to me in Hawaii. I hope they can always ship here, because my chickens love this feed so much, and nothing else here compares to it.

As an FYI, this is scratch. Just letting you know because the product description does not, nor does any of the labels on the bag. This was my first time ordering, and I'd be OK with scratch, except there is A LOT of powder, more then I've experienced with other brands' scratch. I'm a little concerned because the bag that I received does not specify anywhere this is actual chicken layer feed, but I'm sure it's fine for now and my chickens are eating it.

I WANTED TO MAKE SURE IT JUST WAS NOT ONE OR TWO BAGS THIS WAS HAPPENING WITH BEFORE I WROTE THIS PARTICULAR REVIEW . IN ALL SIX BAGS I BOUGHT , IT SEEMS 90% OF THE CONTENTS IS ALL POWDER . AS YOU CAN SEE IN MY PIC , THAT THERE IS ALOT MORE POWDER THAN ACTUAL FOOD . I PURCHASED ANOTHER BRAND FOR CRUMBLES CHICKEN FEED AND IT TURNS OUT I HAVE FOUND IT CONTAIN 99% FOOD / FEED AND 1% POWDER . HIGHLAND NATURALS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR PASSING OFF POWDER FOOD . I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM HIGHLAND NATURALS AGAIN . ITS VERY EXPENSIVE TO POWDER FROM HIGHLAND NATURALS . My 4 chickens love this food. I have tried a couple of other brands that I have purchased through an online animal feed company but there is always one or two ingredients in the food that the chickens leave on the ground, uneaten. With this bag, they eat everything and want more. I'm happy to report that there is no waste with this food, and the plus is that it is much cheaper, without having to pay the approx $25 shipping fee. I have purchased this same brand about 3 or 4 times already and the chickens lay eggs more consistent. I'm happy with it.

Just purchased this for my chickens as they were not too enthused by organic/non-gmo pellets by another company...they love it! Well, my chickens use to love it and so did I, however, the past few bags I've received have looked mostly like cracked corn and dusty powder. They pick thru to what they can eat and the rest is wasted powder all over the ground. Unfortunate as I do like the ingredient listing, but I can't afford to waste my money on ground cover, my chickens have to eat and they aren't too happy about eating powder they want substance.

The problem with this chicken food is the large amount of waste. The chickens toss out the corn and that is a LOT of this food. It is too pricey to find half of it discarded on the ground.
