Great book to prep for the exam!
So far, so good. This book covers all the essentials for passing the Security+ exam and have great tips and tests at the end of each chapter. The more I read/study the more confident I am that I'll pass. Great book and I recommend it.

Best of what's out there...
I bought three books to study for the Security+ SYO-401 exam and this one, by far, is the best. I like that this book is divided into chapters with chapter quizzes at the end of each chapter. It's an easy way to review the material you just learned before going on to something else. The chapter quizzes also make it easy to refresh yourself on the chapters you have already read. The other books I bought were CompTIA Security+ Certification Practice Exams, Second Edition (Exam SY0-401) (Certification Press)and Mike Meyers’ CompTIA Security+ Certification Passport, Fourth Edition (Exam SY0-401) (Mike Meyers' Certficiation Passport). Good luck!

A good, but not perfect, study guide for Security+
Just passed my Sec+, and this book helped a lot. I coupled this book with a Transcender practice exam. First, the pros: This book will cover 95% of everything you need to know for Security+; the other 5% is stuff out of the scope and covered by Network+; if you understand subnets, basic network masks, and port numbers, you'll be fine. The review questions are pretty comprehensive, and there are some digital bonuses at Sybex's site. The language used most of the time does a good job of running the fine line between "too technical" and "too simplistic".The Cons. Other reviewers have mentioned grammar issues, and there are a few minor ones. The book also goes into stuff you don't need to know territory a fair bit. Some of the real-life models they give as examples for digital happenings are incorrect or outdated (from a practical standpoint; they aren't covered on the exams). Some of the review questions are worded badly.Verdict: Well worth $50.

Great resource to prepare for the Comptia Security + SY0-401 ...
Great resource to prepare for the Comptia Security + SY0-401 Certification Exam. After a month and a half of study time, taking notes and using the practice exams on this book. Today I passed the Comptia Security + SY0-401 Exam with a GREAT Score. Definitely if you want to learn well all the Security Exam Topics and be prepared for the exam. Study hard, be persistent, with dedication and with this book. :)

Easy to Pass
Easy to read, good examples, and more than enough information to easily pass the Security+.I studied for 2 months. The first month was reading the book and taking the test. I read maybe 30 minutes a day. The second month I took all of the tests and then reread the chapter where I had a hard time. Studied about an 1 every other day. Passed it on the first try with a decent amount of points to spare.

Excellent STUDY GUIDE
Excellent STUDY GUIDE! Has labs and knowledge of all the CCNA Domains. I highly recommend this book for the Non-IT administrators. Because with this book you can get the hands-on required to pass the CCNA. It covers from basic router/switch setup through some fairly advanced troubleshooting. With the Simulator or actual CISCO equipment off Ebay with the completion of this book you will pass the CCNA first time around.

Some people get lucky and get the easy questions like the ones in this book
I passed the test. No fault to the authors, but practically nothing out there can prepare you for the SY0-401 test. Some people get lucky and get the easy questions like the ones in this book. Others like me get a test that has around 15 questions that aren't covered by this book, or the Comptia Training software called "Cert Master" ,or any other online resource. The test is so hard that if I had failed I would have no idea what to do because so many questions were not covered in this book nor in any training software or practice questions anywhere and because so many are not covered in the book I can't possibly memorize all the hard questions and then google them after the test.My advice is this. Memorize every single protocol and every single port number that has anything to do with any protocol in the book. Some protocols and ports on the test were NOT AT ALL covered in this book so I suggest you use lots of online sources as well as this book.

Boring, just Meh.
I didn't find this cert guide to be all that great. It seems to cover all the proper topics, but explanations of the technologies is thin, and the practical side of the crypto chapter is real thin. I got lost in that chapter early on, and couldn't follow much of the rest at that point. A better explanation of the keys is essential. Throughout the text I notice terminology used for explanation that's probably beyond the reader at that point. The graphics typically add nothing, although doing this topic graphically doesn't work well anyway. I'm looking for another book after slogging through nine chapters in this one.

Excellent Book
I read this book from beginning to end and was able to pass the exam first time with a pass mark of 841/900. One of the simulations on the exam was to configure a firewall, interpreting hosts that had a subnetted IP address. You had to resolve the host's IP addresses to their associated network address, which this book didn't cover. Also Diameter and DLP were not covered in the book, which were questions on the exam. Topics were written in a way that allowed you to understand the topic rather than being expected to memorize, which gives a good rounded view of the area. Practice exams were good, but would recommend the Security+ SYO-401 Android app, as questions on there were on exam! Reading this book and using the app, you will pass easily!

Choose/compare the structure of sentences between Darril Gibson and this book
I should have probably bought Darril Gibson's version of Security+. I've seen quite of wrong spelling sentences and an English structures was not for me.

Yep, I like it!
Great book which contains about 80% of what you need to know. You need some practise exams to query what's missing and google to tell you what it is. To help pass the exam I recommend you fully digest the wireless encryption, remote access connectivity, HTTP, FTP and the protocols and algorithms associated with them. The rest of the material is quite clear when discussing other topics.Thankfully i've passed so I can now stop muttering randomly in the office such things that Kerbose uses port 88, DNS uses port 53 over TCP, RADIUS allows remote access connectiviity over UDP and TACACS is similar and can facilitate logging and auditing using TCP.:)Good Luck!
