My search for the perfect binoculars under $200
A couple of years ago my Zeiss 8x20 pocket mini of 40 years of use took a swim which ruined the coatings. I began to use my backup pair of Nikon Sportstar III 8x25 DCF (now marketed as Trailblazer 8x25 ATB)-$87. Well I figured that it was time to purchase a new set of glass but I wasn’t going to spend a small fortune on the German name brands. After I saw the evaluation of the best binoculars under $400, the top brand was the Vortex Diamondback 8x28 which surprisingly was under $200, I thought this would be easy. Well, not so fast. My first requirement for a binocular is that it fit in my shirt pocket. With birding,it’s a game of seconds and mental concentration. One must go through a mental checklist very quickly. I don’t backpack any longer but enjoy much birding in a very large managed area and use my gravel bike to get to the distant pools. A Columbia shirt has two large breast pockets which were large enough for the Vortex. OK, but two things about the 8 x 28 bothered me. One, I needed a higher power and the eye relief at 18mm kept the binos too far from my brow. I like to have the edge of the eye cup touch the brow which helps to steady the shake factor. I next tried the Occer 15x30. For $37 this little rascal has pretty good glass. Problem is it’s not 25x30, it’s 8x25 and I wanted a set that will give me more detail on shorebirds. It’s a cheap build and I really don’t know if any of the specs are accurate. Still, it has pretty good glass and I think it shows that the Chinese mass production of optical glass has advanced quite a bit. Another bono in the gift pile. Next I tried out the Pentax UP 8-26x21 ($84) The specs looked good but OMG the optics were junk! The 8x had maybe 20% focus in the center and the 16x had none of the field in focus. Where was Quality Control? So back they go on the return truck. All this time I kept looking at my 2003 Nikons to get a baseline to compare the others to. It’s not a bad little bump with good clear optics and a wide FOV. So I bet you’re saying “what about the Vortex Diamondback 10x28”? Yep, I got it and after my efforts at learning about the competition , I’m so glad I did. The optics are excellent. I figure every person has their own subjective opinion on optics, but the Diamondback is not only very clear, but the colors are so vivid and the picture takes on a 3D effect. The eye relief is 16mm which is fine (I don’t wear glasses). The eye cups lock in two positions and feel very solid with no jiggle. Some have complained that there isn’t a lock for the diopter, but it doesn’t need one. The wheel is very tight with no way to accidentally move it. The aluminum frame is very solid and covered with rubber. The barrels are sealed and purged with Argon for waterproofing. This bono does not have a cheap feel to it, and best of all it’s only $144 on Amazon with free shipping! And it comes with the Vortex lifetime unconditionall warranty if it ever does have an accident! It’s been on two outings and so far I love it. Oh, and yes, it does fit in my shirt pocket.

Take the gamble against the few negative reviews. I did and it paid off. Great glasses
Crystal clear, easy to adjust and I also like the fact that you do not have to put the eye cups all the way to your face. As it makes it to where the glass doesn't fog up from your body hear on a cool brisk morning. Used them during spring turkey season here in Missouri and am looking forward to using them this fall in the deer stand. I am now entertaining the idea of getting a Vortex scope for one of my favorite deer rifles. Would highly recommend these binoculars.

10x28
Love these things. Clarity is amazing. Powerful and compact. Nice texture for comfort and grip. I can see object as close as 10ft clearly, and stong 10 power optics. Great for hunting. And of course you can't for get about vortex unconditional warranty. I buy nothing but vortext these days. Thet are unmatch in price and quality. Never needed there warranty but i do know some that did and had no problems getting replacment back them with in a week.

I really like these - Stiff Diopter ring.
I have only had them a few days. They were heavier than I expected. They feel solid and well made. I have several pairs of binoculars, a 20x50, and a 10x50.I find the 20x50 ones are to hard to hold by hand. The 10x50s are great. I wanted something smaller to take on walks. These are as good or better than my 10x50s and much smaller. These 10x28 ones will be my go to. My only issue was the diopter ring was very stiff to turn, I thought it was frozen at first. It is still very stiff but works. I would recommend these.

Amazing Clarity for the Price!
I purchased the Vortex Optics Diamondback HD 10X28 Binoculars based solely on the reviews I read and am one hundred percent satisfied based upon the clarity, lack of shadowing and quick spotting. I have a pair of Leica Duovid 10X50 Binoculars I grew nervous of sharing at Washington Husky Football games due to a couple of near drops, so I knew I had to find an alternative, and boy, I'm glad I chose the Vortex. Currently, I have the Vortex Strike Eagle Scope on one of my rifles, so I knew the binoculars were going to be a great choice, especially with the warranty. I've also used the Binoculars in low light conditions while out on the water and am as equally amazed as I was at the football game. I can't wait to take the glasses out for a little birdwatching.

Optically Superb 10x28 Binoculars
I have compared to my old bushnell, and Kmart made in Japan binoculars which are more than 2 decades old. So I thought I’m due for a new pair to see if they have improved anything in binoculars, and they are a vast improvement in clarity. I’m not easily pleased either. I like the size, the low weight, the quality feel, the smoothness even the color. These are truly a high quality product. I doubt that for $149 anything else out there can come close. There is nothing I don’t like about these binoculars. Crystal Clear Optics vibrant colors and 10x magnification which I have no problem holding steady and an unconditional lifetime warranty make this a keeper. Thanks Amazon for being the seller no stores anywhere near me had these.

Impressive For The Money!
I was not expecting Swarovski glass, but this little 10x28 set is really a stellar performer. They say the best pair of binocs is the set you have with you, and at this price, you can afford to keep them around all the time. They are actually not too shabby in dusk conditions, pulling in a bit more light than I expected. Nothing like a 42mm objective, but these are so much more portable than a larger set. All the mechanisms are smooth and tight, but easy to operate. The provided pouch is serviceable, and the dust covers are just adequate. Toss a pair of these in your backpack and have them with you all the time! Recommended.

Worth Buying
This binocular has all the attributes of a good binocular. Well made and sleek in design with very good optics. I wish it has longer eye relief.
