Sinner's Gin: Sinners, Book 1

Made for Mass Market reading
I'm a book lover and find there are several different writing styles and they fit different ways of reading.Ford's books work well in mass market. Why? I'm someone who takes prestigious care of my books, No dog-earing. No marking. Taking care of them so they rarely even get creases in the spines. However, that doesn't apply to mass market books. Mass market books fit well in the hands and are meant to be pulled back, crinkling the spine, dog-eared if need be. They are, in their way, as gritty as Ford's writing. (And that is a compliment.) So they definitely go hand in hand. It's nice to sit back in a chair and bend the one side down as I read, not caring the use the book is put to. My mass market last a long time, but they do end up looking used after as many re-reads as I give them, whereas my trade paper look practically brand new no. matter how many times I pick them up.Sinner's Gin is the first in Ford's Sinner's series. It's the story of the relationship between Kane and Miki. The insta-love part I could have done without, but I did like the gritty story of Miki, a man who has been through far too much, now has to go through more pain due to the people in his past. But it's also the story of Kane and his close family who want to help him.I've read the entire series in ebook, so I know where everything goes from here. I enjoyed the series enough I bought them all in mass market. This way I can carry them with me anywhere if needed. While not my fave Ford series, Sinner's is still decent. Give it a try.

lots of triggers
Not for me but just be warned.Rhys’s writing is beyond good, and this story shocked from the beginning to the end. I am looking forward to reading the 2nd book. Kane and Miki are adorable together and I hope we get more of them.

Best author I've ever read!
This is one of the best gay romance series I've ever read, and written by probably the best author I've ever read! Rhys Ford writes so well, but, after I finished the Sinners Series I began reading another series by another of my favorite authors and though still good, it was evident and disappointing at how lacking in ability the writing was compared to that of Rhys Ford. Each book of the Sinners Series were suspenseful page turners keeping me reading and rarely boring. Each book were novel's in their own right and the fictional characters, and the world Rhys Ford has crafted and created becomes mesmerizingly real. I became addicted to this series, it was simply fantastic.Unlike most authors of gay romance, whether Sci Fi, Fantasy or normal fiction, who sometimes write extremely graphic chapters and going on and on and on depicting sex acts between characters, Rhys Ford's description of the sex scenes are written completely from the perspective of love between the characters and is not described like the chapters of pornography that so many other authors spew.I originally had gotten several books from this series as Mass Market published versions because they were cheaper. Well, I guess you get what you pay for, and it's probably been many years since I've gotten a standard size bookstore book, because they were so small, and the font of the text so small, that I had problems reading them even with my reading glasses. So, I returned them and purchased the larger and more expensive 15 dollar versions, so i could enjoy reading the larger book with larger text. Although, the 6th and last book in the series was the larger size version, but the font size seemed almost half the size of the other books in the series. Perhaps it was because if the font had been larger, the book would have been so many more pages that it would have been cost prohibitive or something. There was a negative about this author however. I was so excited by this author's writing ability, that after finishing the Sinners Series, I immediately purchased Rhys Ford's Kai Gracen Series, as I'm a huge fan of SciFi/Supernatural. Unfortunately, not only was the writing not the same quality I expected, and in fact seemed written by a different author, there was little if any gay romance at all, at least in the first book of the series. In any case, I disappointingly, returned all three books. However, in their place I bought the 3 books of the 415 Ink series instead, as the story takes place in the same world written for the Sinners series. Alas, unfortunately not supernatural in any way.

Beautiful, honest, poetic and powerful.
I’m not sure how exactly I ended up reading this book. But I’m ever so glad I did.Miki is a tortured soul. He had a truly terrible childhood, and then found a sense of home with the band Sinner’s Gin. Just after they won a Grammy Award, the band were in an horrific car accident, and Miki was the only survivor. He is alone, he is struggling and he is lost.Kane is a cop, from a family of cops, and he’s strong and steady, and willing to be Miki’s anchor. The romance between the two of them is beautiful. Honest. The novel follows the mystery of who is killing people and leaving their grisly remains for Miki to find, but while I thought that mystery was well written, for me it was a background to Miki’s path to peace and Kane’s growing adoration. One of my favourite parts of the book is when Kane rattles off all the little things he knows about Miki, and it’s so clear that every little part of Miki is important and loved. Each chapter starts with song lyrics, or a tidbit of conversation between Miki and his best friend from the band that he used to write songs with. Some of the lyrics are beautiful. The author, Rhys Ford, writes poetry as beautifully as she writes novels. The book ended quite satisfactorily for Miki, but with a huge teaser for another character that made me immediately buy the next book in the series. I haven’t even read the blurb, I don’t need to, I just know that I need to read that book now. And I have a book that I pre-ordered and have been waiting impatiently to read that downloaded this morning, but screw it, I need to read this book next. I’m totally sucked in.I won’t spoil anything for you, but the side characters are brilliant. Miki’s fear of Kane’s mother is both hilarious and tragic. Kane’s dad is awesome, albeit perhaps a little misguided. Kane’s brothers and partner and some of the other cops, they all felt real. Incredibly well-written. Five stars.

Worth Far More Than 5 Stars
Had to read this as I love M/M detective stories and was so very glad that I did, it's a beautiful love story. Miki is the lead singer of a band but after a major tragedy his becomes more or less a recluse living with a stray dog who happened to just wander in. The dog has a bad habit of stealing objects and hiding them in Miki's garage, and when he steals an expensive piece of wood from Kane a detective who owns the warehouse next door where he works with wood as a hobby, Miki's solitude is over. Kane comes banging on Miki's door demanding he return the piece of wood and keep his dog on a leash, and from that hiccup begins all the struggles that follow. Miki is being targeted by someone who starts by dumping a mutilated body in his classic car, and Kane is the investigating officer. Miki who's life was horrendous as a child doesn't trust or let people in easily, but Kane is instantly attracted to him, and is determined to break through Miki's walls. Do yourself a big favour and read this story it is sooo very good

Blew me away..
Just Wow this book just blew me away, it has to be one of my top reads for this year.I'm new to the Author but boy am I impressed I love her writing style it's very very well written and has a storyline that grabs you from the beginning and doesn't let go not even at the end as the end is a OMG moment that leaves you wanting more. In fact as soon as I finished this book I went and brought the second book and I can't wait to read it.It has loveable Characters especially the Morgan Family I so wish I was part of this family. You can tell they love each and fight like siblings do but the warmth and love is there especially from Momma Morgan . The way the boys explain their mother is funny but she loves them and accepts her son's choices in life.Kane Morgan oh I feel in love with Kane he is what a man should be and the way he is with Miki is sweet and I'm glad he stuck with helping Miki because these two are so cute together. The suspense in this book is amazing it revolves around Miki's past and it's not nice but life isn't sometimes. You are kept on the edge of your seat thinking what is going to happen next and I'm happy Miki faced his demons he needed to.Yes there are some M/M sex scenes which are beautifully written and once again Kane is just so sweet with the way he treats Miki. And then we come to the end of the book and yeah that was a surprise but it works and it makes you want to know what happens next and I can't wait to find out.LOVED LOVED this book.

Sinners Series 1-4 Transparent as a pane of glass
I read the first book and thought it was OK, but I wanted to see how the series progressed. Unfortunately the same plot was used in the rest of the series. When I say the same, I mean EXACTLY the same. No surprises whatsoever and I was really disappointed. The storyline was transparent, and especially in books 3 and 4 the bad guy wasn't properly introduced until practically the end, almost as if the writer hadn't quite decided whodunnit.Rhys likes the word 'stygian', which is a good word but came up often enough to make me think I was reading the same thing twice. I think also some of it was lost in translation as I didn't get some of the references. All four books were just too 'samey'.I wanted to really love these books but couldn't. The love/sex was too long winded and wordy at times, too flowery and got lost in itself. Yes, I'm all for romanticism, but it just went on. The plot was ridiculous really, all these things repeatedly happening to the same family was, quite frankly, preposterous, and all the love interests - Damien, Miki and Rafe - with the exception of Quinn who tried to commit suicide - had incredibly abusive early lives. Yeah, they get their HEA, unfortunately I didn't.

great book!!!!
I have become a fan of Rhys Ford. This is my second book by the author and I enjoyed it as much as the first one. The storyline was great and it was very well written. Miki is a recluse rock star who is recovering from the injuries caused in an accident that killed his band mates. He also has a dark past which is haunting him. Kane is a police officer who has a big Irish family. A father who is understanding, a mother who is fiercely protective of her children and siblings who tease, irritate and also love each other very much. Both Miki and Kane are as different as day and night but when they come together it is perfect. The mystery kept me glued to the book. Also the end had me going to Amazon and buying the second book. I am hoping it is as good as this one. I highly recommend this book to all. And be ready to fall in love with Miki, Kane and Dude. Five stars!!!!
