Robin Hood Men In Tights [DVD]

Have watched many incarnations of Robin Hood but have never seen this version until now and am glad I finally got round to it. This is a parody of Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner but instead starring Cary Elwes who as he says in the film can do an English accent, there are nods to that film alongside the musical numbers thanks to Mel Brooks of Blazing Saddles fame who again shows his magical twist on an old English folk hero that has been onscreen for decades with various actors taking on the mantle from Douglas Fairbanks Junior to Taron Egerton. The most infamous and best onscreen film version will always be Errol Flynn but that doesn't take away from Cary Elwes who really should have been in Prince of Thieves as Robin but Kevin Costner was the choice hence why they make a little joke of it. Definitely one to see if fan of Robin Hood or Mel Brooks films as won't be disappointed.

a laugh out loud film, mel brooks could write a script and the jokes just keep coming. and robin can even do an english accent!!

As inferred by the title of my review - i saw 'Robin Hood: Men in Tights' well before i saw 'robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' to which the film gives much more than a passing nod. In fact it would be over ten years before I would see that film... and in all that time I still thought the film was a great comedic take on the Robin Hood legend, and indeed film history of that particular mythos. When I eventually got round to seeing RH:PoT however, the film took itself to a new level - i spotted more jokes, and more events which caused me to laugh until i was ready to cry. Starring Cary Elwes (the Princess Bride, Saw, Hot Shots, Days of Thunder) and Amy Yasbeck (Wings, Problem Child)the story of Robin, returning from the crusades in Jerusalem to find his family home plundered by the Sherriff, we folw him on his quest to regain his lost home, name and lady, Marian. If you've seen and enjoyed previous Mel Brooks films then this is another one to add to the list of classic comedic parodies from the brains beind Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles. If you haven't then this is a great one to get started with - family friendly, and fun - most kids will be familiar with Robin Hood, and jokes for the grown ups too!

In the pantheon of spoofs, this always seems to get missed out. And that's a shame, because it's genuinely funny. The humour is a little subtle in places, though in others it will come out and smack you in the chops. And there are quite a few references to other films, either of the same period (like a gentle dig or two at Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves for example) or of the same genre (I'll let you spot them) which always amuse me. It's a great film and everyone seemed to be having fun making it, which makes it fun to watch.

This movie for any Robin Hood collector is a must. You usuaully find all the drama in the Robin Hood flicks but if it is laughter you are looking for this is the one for you. I have all the Robin Hood movie's and there is just one line in this movie that makes it all worth the buying and sooo very true..." Unlike some Robin Hood's , I can speak with an English accent" LOL. And that is sooo true most movies like the one with Kevin Costner in them, the actors have no ENGLISH accent. Being an American doesn't make a difference one way or another because I am one BUT considering Robin Hood was ENGLISH it does make this movie all the funnier , if not only for this line. Again Mel Brooks pulls off a great spoof , so if ya are one of his fans, this movie is a must.

Absolute classic! This film has a great cast and delivers humour throughout. The quality of the Blu-ray is pretty decent too.

Cary Elwes interpreta a Robin Hood con una combinación perfecta de encanto y humor. Su habilidad para entregar líneas cómicas con un rostro serio es simplemente magistral. Junto a él, tenemos a un elenco talentoso que logra destacar en cada momento. Dave Chappelle, como el fiel compañero de Robin Hood, aporta un humor fresco y genuino a la película. Además, la encantadora Amy Yasbeck interpreta a la dulce y valiente Marian, añadiendo un toque romántico a la trama. El guion es una joya. Los diálogos están repletos de ingenio y chistes rápidos que te harán reír sin parar. Los juegos de palabras y las referencias cómicas a otras películas son constantes, y siempre se sienten frescos y oportunos. Mel Brooks tiene la habilidad de crear humor atemporal que sigue siendo relevante incluso años después del lanzamiento de sus películas. La dirección de Mel Brooks es impecable. Cada escena está cuidadosamente construida para maximizar el impacto cómico, y el ritmo de la película es perfecto. Los gags visuales y los momentos absurdos se suceden sin descanso, manteniendo al espectador completamente inmerso en el mundo cómico que Brooks ha creado. Mel Brooks waagt zich deze keer aan de "groene boogschutter" uit Sherwood. De verwijzingen naar de versies met oa. Erroll Flynn of Kevin Costner zijn overduidelijk. Maar ook enige zelfspot door zijn vorige films aan te halen (oa. "Blazing Saddles", "History of the World") zijn niet ver te zoeken.

On ne s'en lasse pas, beaucoup d'éléments à découvrir et re-découvrir. Des clins d'œil. Trop rigolo. Merci Mel Brooks
