Excellent shaker! High quality, great sound, and very versatile!

I use this almost every day to add to the music I'm listening to and singing in the car. It goes with so many songs.The sound is great. Absolutely worth the money. Size is perfect, fits in my hand well and is easy to store. Has lasted a long time and seems like it'll keep lasting. Feels cheap because it's so light, but that's definitely not a bad thing. Works really well. Amazing purchase.

Meinl overs these shakers in three "volume" levels (red, black, and silver cases) designated soft, medium, and loud. I have all three.This silver model has very sharp-edged pellets inside, and with two shaker tubes makes a lot of noise. I am confident it would cut through well in a live playing situation. I have found that it tends to be a bit much in more "unplugged" settings, where the shaker is meant to be more subtle.The red "soft" version feels like it has sand or something really gentle inside. It has a more diffuse sound that sets a more indistinct beat.The medium model is somewhere in between.All three Meinl shakers take a bit of practice to develop a clean sound. Unlike the egg-type shakers, the amount of area that the internal pellets can cover in the two tubes is much larger, and therefore one's hand movements have to be more intentional and controlled to keep all the pellets marching in step and creating a consistent and clean sound. It's not a problem once the issue is recognized.In a more intimate setting, especially if a microphone is being used, these Meinl shakers may be too much, and an egg shaker may work better. I have all at my disposal, and it's nice to have the choice. Overall, if I had to pick only one of the Meinl units, I would probably pick the medium one (black). But I would also have an egg shaker with me just in case.

As a massive Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine fan, I went ahead and bought this shaker in case the Miami Sound Machine ever makes a comeback. This way I could practice and be ready to Get On My Feet and Turn the Beat Around in the event the Miami Sound Machine held open tryouts for a shaker. The shaker is very durable, easy to hold and has a nice sound to it ....and the rhythm has in fact got me. My roommate isn't so thrilled about it but I think he will come around. Anyway, love the shaker - only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because I wish the versatility was a bit better - MORE SOUNDS! Overall, I recommend for anybody who wants to shake things up - see you soon Gloria!

Easy to grip and has great tone.

This shaker is easy to hold and you can play with more nuance than an egg shaker. It is a similar sound to an egg shaker but loud enough to use in a larger venue. I’ve been using it in a jam group. I had bought a tube-style shaker in the past and did not like the sound so I never used it and was skeptical about getting something else. But this has been great!
