Any dirt and/or oil will prevent an accurate measurement. Check and clean the sensor regularly. The surface should be reflective and gleaming. If it is dull and lacklustre, please clean the sensor with a q-tip cotton swabs (preferably soaked with alcohol).In order to avoid inaccuracy:1. Please make sure that there is no dirt on the temperature sensor2. Please use the thermometer indoors or in an environment where there is no strong air draft and let the thermometer settle in room temperature3. Try to keep the subject stationary.4. Make sure there isn't any sweat, water or condensation on the forehead.5. If the thermometer is transferred from an environment where the ambient temperature might be different, please wait 10 minutes before using the device6. Before measuring temperature from an ear canal, remove earwax, if any.7. Keep the ear canal cleanTemperature reading exceeding 37.5°C/99.5°F will automatically alert you by changing the display screen from GREEN to RED for 3 seconds whilst also having 7 short buzzing sounds. These are not loud enough to wake a sleeping baby, one can remove it off their forehead or ear immediately.Please note an ear temperature is 0.5°F (0.3°C) to 1°F (0.6°C) higher than a forehead temperature while a forehead temperature is usually 0.5°F (0.3°C) to 1°F (0.6°C) lower than an oral temperature.
