The knife is as described. Actual Damascus steel. NOT a laser design to look like Damascus steel. Very sharp, since blade. Full tang construction. Great looking.

This knife is awesome. Well made, beautiful, handles nicely. I dropped it on my unshorn foot. Cut my big toenail clean in half.10/10

This is not Damascus forged steel.
This knife is great, sharp and durable. It is NOT Damascus style forged steel, however. It's pressed or textured to appear like Damascus. A simple sharpening reveals that the metal is high carbon bar stock, most likely 1095 or something close.Having stated this, it's an inexpensive and attractive piece of cutlery that is pretty durable.

Not so sure about the damascus.
At first I was all praises about the knife. But the more i learned about damscus steel the less i cared about getting modern Damascus as it is for the look more then it is about the quality of knife. Do know that is the case. This is an update to an old review… i had once chipped my blade and had to reshape it (with the help of my friend who makes knives) and learned this painful truth… it is easier to show you what i mean rather than explain… first pic is when i got it. The next pic is after having to reshape it and a number of uses after… still a good knife, just not worth the price….

BEAU ET ROBUSTE COUTEAU
Couteau très esthétique dans la plus pure tradition japonaise (bien que fabriqué en Chine!). Technologie "full tang" et poignée très bien finie. la lame est extrêmement tranchante et semble en véritable Damas. A conseiller.

Holds and keeps a great edge, and very comfortable to use
I have had several German (Wusthof, Henckels) and American (Buck) knives and although they would take a good edge, they dulled quickly. I was told that a Japanese forged knife would hold its edge longer, and I ordered this knife because it was said to be Chinese-made but using Japanese steel.Right out of the attractive gift-box I was very impressed with it. I was originally leery of the idea of a wooden handle, but this one makes for a very comfortable grip on a well-balanced knife. In fact the knife is just a pleasure to use.The edge was very sharp, literally razor sharp, in its original condition and has held up well. A few passes with a 3000 grit wet stone renews it almost to that edge, and I'm sure if I bothered to strop the blade it would be back to its factory sharpness in no time.I had been looking at santoku knives priced two or three times the price of this one, and I don't think they would be appreciably more functionally satisfying than this one. At this price you cannot go wrong.
