... have been tentatively dipping my toes in with these beautiful deluxe editions
I'm unfamiliar with the Valiant universe but I have been tentatively dipping my toes in with these beautiful deluxe editions. I loved the humour and adventure of Archer and Armstrong, and was lukewarm about Harbinger, being taken with neither the art nor the main character. This however was another highly enjoyable read and definitely a series I will continue with when the next deluxe edition rolls around.

Bloodshot: Badass, Brutal, Brilliant!
Codename: Bloodshot, he is host to microscopic machines called 'nanites' that are able to perform myriad manipulations within and exterior to his body, such as repairing it so that he can recover from fatal injury and near-death, and tapping into machinery and various other technology that they use to sustain Bloodshot throughout his missions and continued existance. One day Bloodshot's nanites get hacked by a rival corporation, which opens his eyes to the reality of his existance and causes him to go on his own mission to discover who he really is, and why he is *what* he is. But before you think "this is just another 'Wolverine' story", you couldn't be more wrong.Having said that, as complicated as this may sound, it's all delivered extremely quickly and easily in the story, and the first page of the book gives the reader a quick, basic and informative rundown on the machines that are responsible for making Bloodshot able to achieve the things that he does, which makes it all the more easy to jump into the story and get on with the action. There's a *lot* of action in this story, and the hand-to-hand fight sequences especially really are a thrill. Unlike a lot of super heros and characters in other comics, Bloodshot, whilst fast and strong, is FAR from invincible/unstoppable and often finds himself having to fight with everything he's got to get out of dire situations. There's gore, but only to the level that's applicable to the damage sustained: The artists don't go totally over the top with it or stylise it: it's just there to serve its function which is something I really like. As expected, the gunfights, fist fights and hazardous moments are all really tense and exciting as Bloodshot becomes overwhelmed and has to figure out some way to overcome the situation or his opponents. One of the best things about the fight sequences is that every blow looks *heavy*. Every bullet looks sharp and fast. The illustrators have done a fantastic job of making everything look as devastating as it ought to be, which is completely vital to this book, given the character involved and his abilities.Surrounding characters are quickly introduced, both allied with and opposing Bloodshot. And if you think that Bloodshot is going to team up with other elite military soldiers for an early shootout with the baddies, then think again. He has a very interesting and sometimes unlikely surrounding cast, and they're all there for a good reason, regardless of who's side they're on.There are some nice uses of colour such as cool blues for the cold military backgrounds, bright yellows for gunshot muzzle flashes and bullet paths and reds for injuries, which makes it an exciting book to look at. The illustration itself I found was good quality throughout and the character design is very interesting, as there are some most unexpected and interesting characters introduced in this story as Bloodshot's foes. I can't say too much about that without giving away some of the best parts of the book, but there are some really varied characters that cross paths with Bloodshot, which is far more interesting and entertaining than it would have been to have him simply mowing his way through countless 'generic soldiers'.This hardcover also features Bloodshot issues #10-#13, which were part of Valiant's 'Harbinger Wars' crossover event (See Harbinger Wars Deluxe Edition Volume 1 HC ). The good thing about this is that these issues can be read perfectly coherently without reading the rest of the 'Harbinger Wars' books, so doesn't detract from the quality of the collection at all.Being the very start of the story, this hardcover collection is a great place to begin reading Bloodshot. Action packed and full of believable characters, and it's actually a surprisingly deep comic once you pick it up for a second time and start actually *thinking* about what's going on.I sincerely, honestly feel that anyone who passes this comic over will be missing out on a superb new universe and from this fantastic company, and particularly at this price, it's just so WORTH picking up, if simply out of curiosity. I've been reading the comics monthly, and it just gets even better after this.

Bloodshot hard cover - best bang for the buck!
Valiant Bloodshot is a great series, action packed and very well written. This hard cover collects the first thirteen issues of the Bloodshot series, some of which were the best ones put out for this title (IMO). You get introduced to Bloodshot, see who he tries to cope with his unknown past, and then start to see his interactions with the world around him, including with the Harbinger Wars saga. One of the awesome things about these hard covers is that they are packed full of extra - extra art, background information, all sort of little goodies that collectors would love to get, and readers would love to see. This hard cover collection costs the same as about two or three of the trade paperbacks, so if it a very good deal to pick up a lot of story.

action packed from page 1...
Non stop action, from the first page to the last. A nanite fueled super-soldier with the ability to heal any wound, change his appearance at will, tap into any technology and kick any butt.....Bloodshot, gets a rude awakening when he finds out that all of his life has been a lie,his family merely a false implanted memory and his employers a shady military contractor who have been using bloodshot to perform unspeakable evils. This puts agent Bloodshot on a road to revenge which leads to him all but destroying the base of operations of his ex-handlers and the discovery of a group of superpowered children called "psiots" , whom he learns are incarcerated there because he hunted down and captured them for his former employers "Project Rising Spirit" to be used as weapons. After releasing the children from their prison Bloodshot seeks to keep them safe from anyone else who would seek to use their powers for their own gain. This pits Bloodshot against two already warring factions of psiots; Toyo Harada's Harbinger Foundation and Peter Stancheck's Renegades whom both want the children to join their ranks. All in all this book was fast-paced action packed and full of fight scenes and battle. the artwork was great throughout and lent itself well to the story. This book does a great job of introducing the character of Bloodshot and where he fits in the Valiant universe without being a long-winded origin story. The extra pages included at the end of the book contain cover art, pencils, inks and script notes of various pages which are great for fans to see the process of creating a story in graphic form, as well as some early character concept design. The book itself is of good quality the binding is glued so it does take a few pages in before the pages stay open on their own but there is no gutter loss or difficulty of reading beyond this. Definitely a book worth picking up and i can't wait for volume 2 to be released.
