Works as it should
I bought this for my Garden Tractor. I have Honda GX630 installed into an '78 Powermax 9020. I wanted to make sure I wasn't over-driving the hydro's 3600rpm limit. The tachometer is what I bought this for, the hour meter I'm sure is useful but my tractor already has one and I honestly don't care much about the hours. The display will always display the hours unless you pull the battery. Not a big deal but keep it in mind. If you look and don't see the hours displayed, it's time for a new battery. The backlight is a nice feature that is easily turned on/off.I bought two of these. I "thought" I killed my first one after the tractor was forced to be outside in the weather for a couple of weeks. It does not have a hole in the bottom to drain condensation if you let it sit in the rain or get dew on it. That's the bad news. The good news is, even after it got completely filled up with water, I removed the battery and installed a new one and it worked. Yes, I dumped the water out and let it dry for a bit first. I thought it failed, which is what I had expected, because when I put a new battery in it wouldn't come on. I installed that battery in the new unit and it wouldn't light either. The new in the packaging battery was dead. Ugh! I put a new battery in the old unit and it works fine. So, this is one tough little unit. The adhesive on the velcro is "okay". If you apply it and let it sit it will work fine. If you have to remove or move the tach more than a couple of times, you will likely need to reapply the velcro.I plan on messing around with mine to see if I can cut the wire and add a jack to make the "head" unit removable so it doesn't have to sit out in the weather. It happens.Would I recommend this for someone else? Yes! It's easy to install. I used electrical tape around my spark plug wire instead of the included tie-wrap but the tie wrap should work as well.

cord was too short for my application.Cord length 57" but requires 5 wraps of cord around plug wire which eats up at least 8" in my application, which leaves me at 49" to get the display out where I can read it.FYIDisplay dimensions for this unit are 1-5/16" x 5/8" x 2-9/16"Cord dimension is 57" x 1/8".

Worth the Money
Great tachometer and easy to install. Only complaint is the lack of instructions once its installed. I also wish the display turned off completely when idle because I haven't even used it and the battery is down a quarter. Still a 4 star buy.

Motormeter tach died the 1st day!!!!
Product arrived on time. Took it out of the package and installed on my outboard, no problems at all. Went to the lake and the product worked fine. Upon leaving the lake I ran through a 5 minute shower on the way home. The screen was full of water (supposed to be water proof). I could slightly see the display behind all the water but within a few minutes it quit working as well. Went out the next morning and the tachometer was dead. Do yourself a favor and spend a few more $$$ if you plan on using this product on something that may be around water or outside.

Great Hour Meter for Craftman Lawn tractors that do not have one factory installed
I purchased this product for a Craftsman lawn tractor that did not come with an hour meter. I initially searched for the a factory replacement, but the $60 price tag seemed a little steep for the function. I ordered this because of the price and positive reviews.InstallationInstallation was very simple. As seen in the photos, I drilled a small (9/64 inch) hole in the factory hour meter pop out location. (I didn't want to drill a hole in the dash of my new tractor.) Running the cable was not very difficult either. I used existing wire loom in the tractor and avoided the muffler pipe near the spark plug wire. I used the two provided zip ties to attach the signal wire to the spark plug wire. The meter's wire was long enough to easily route along the frame and still have enough for the require 5 loops.I used the provided velcro to mount the unit to the has of the tractor. It comes pre-cut, so need to do that.ConfigurationThis was a snap as well. I left all setting default except for the service reminder. I changed it from 20 hours to 25 hours. You can adjust this from 1 - 200 hours, so no issues there. There are a number of other configuration choices as well: Hi RPM warning (kind of like a redline indicator), total operation time, job time (time per usage), max RPMs, and the ability to adjust sparks per revolution (as I stated, I left mine at 1 spark per revolution).FeaturesThe backlight is only on for 2 seconds, so no worries about running the battery down (they provide a battery as well, CR2032). The RPMs are accurate, I assume. I really didn't need this feature just the hour meter, this is an added benefit.Overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone with a small engine that does not have an hour meter, and needs one for a service reminder.

Temperamental
Tach is nice and seems accurate, but that's only when it's working. Used about 3 hours on a lawn mower, only registered .2 hours. Battery died quickly. Doesn't always register when running.Update: Found wire melted from engine heat. Of course it has to be mounted in a hot place, so a bit better insulation will solve the problems I had. Snipped off the melted part since I still had some slack, rewrapped it, now it works fine.

It works but I don't trust the RPM readings. Simply wrapping a wire cord around 1 of the spark plug wires will not give accurate RPM readings.
