Wanted to replaced 10+ year old Krups electric kettle.
UPDATE April 2025: 5 stars for customer service. They said the rust spots are from my water, and they recommend I descale the kettle with vinegar more frequently. I strongly recommend you use distilled water with it if you can. I don't know why I never tasted rust and never found rust spots in my older stainless steel + plastic Krups electric kettle. Maybe our tap water got more iron in it. If you have a problem, definitely contact Krups directly and don't put a low review on amazon.Customer service has now repaired or replaced it four times, even from France, and they say that the rust spots, rust taste, etc are due entirely to the minerals in my water. This last time, it is a brand new kettle. I always use a Brita filter pitcher, and I never had this problem with the old Krups stainless steel + plastic kettle (that one lasted over 10 years, maybe over 15 years, until it leaked from the plastic window). And I wasn't even using a Brita filter most of that time. I endured the weird smells coming off the materials at first. In the last kettle I had, I can see the rust spots on the inside bottom of the february replacement, and I can smell rust in the boiled water. Why can't someone make an electric kettle out of glass and/or stainless steel without glue, silicone, and a weird seam? I didn't need the LED to be incorporated into the kettle, and yet we see this design all over amazon.UPDATE February 2025: This did not go as smoothly as with the old kettle, but I have a good kettle now. About a year of light use after I got this kettle, it started leaking. Aramis at Krups sent a prepaid label, and I shipped the kettle to a small appliance repair person in the region. It returned smelling a little funny, but after boiling a few kettles of water, I was able to use it, and it worked well. This year (2025) I saw brown rust spots on the inside at the edge (not white scale). I contacted Krups customer service, and I said I wanted a new kettle. Aramis promptly had a new kettle shipped from France! I received it yesterday, and it seems to be working well and doesn't smell funny at all. Great warranty service. February 2025.Previous review:Wow, my last Krups electric kettle lasted well over 10 years - I lost track. It was used daily but only by 1 person in the home. That one was a mixture of stainless steel (exterior and interior) and plastic. It had a window on each side of plastic that showed the water level, and on one side it finall failed & leaked.I've had this a few days - good enough so far. I was glad to find an electric kettle where the body is mostly glass. I like how Krups says they will repair items, too. I wish I could find one made in the US.Pros:- Heats water quickly- I didn't buy it for LED lighted water, tho thru the glass, it turned out to be fun to watch- Sturdy grounded plug (old one was not)- Switch and lid release work well- Water tastes good- Good pouringCons:- Plastic smell for days. I used more than 3 fills of water to mostly get rid of it. I don't taste it in the water now; it's a faint smell. I recommend using the 2 teaspoons of baking soda sooner rather than later. If you see "pitting" in the bottom following baking soda, follow up with a bit of vinegar standing in there a while, and those will disappear. You might leave it full of water and sitting out overnight (not heating obviously).- The little filter had no instructions on how to remove it. I gently pried it out with my fingernail.

Really happy I went with this one...
I love:1. The temperature choices that allow me to precisely warm for my lemon water vs blanch veggies vs soak orzo or quinoa vs boil and make the perfect pot of tea2. Was always careful with a previous kettle to turn the spout away from the cabinets and towards the middle of the kitchen so that the steam would not ruin my cabinets - this one magically contains the steam and I can use it on the back of the counter3. It's really large and heats a lot of water at once. That works well for me because I have an electric stove and prefer not to wait for water to boil in a pot. Instead, I always boil in the kettle and transfer to the pot for efficiency. The only drawback, which does not affect me, is that it is heavy. My 85yo mother could not use this, because once it's filled, she'd have challenges.Otherwise, it's beautiful and complements my decor perfectly.

A beautiful and functional electric kettle.
This is a lovely looking kettele, much nicer than expected. It is stainless steel inside and heats up a lot of water fast. Very pleased.

Reliable Kettle, But Longevity Could Be Better
This kettle quickly became my go-to for brewing tea and making instant coffee. The design is sleek, and the 1.7L capacity is perfect for daily use. It heats water quickly and efficiently, saving me time, especially during busy mornings. The smart temperature control feature is a big plus, allowing me to choose the perfect temperature for different types of tea, whether it’s green tea, black tea, or even herbal blends. The stainless steel interior gives me peace of mind that no plastic is coming into contact with the boiling water.Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t without a hitch. After about six months of regular use, the kettle suddenly stopped working. It was disappointing, especially since I had grown to rely on it for my daily routine. However, I must commend the manufacturer’s warranty service. They were responsive and processed my repair request, though it did take about 3-4 weeks to get it back. During that time, I had to purchase a different kettle, which was a bit inconvenient.Despite this issue, I still have a lot of love for this device. Once I got it back, it was just as good as new. The boil-dry protection is a handy feature that has saved me on a few occasions when I accidentally left it on without enough water. I also appreciate how easy it is to clean, with the wide mouth allowing me to reach in and scrub it out thoroughly when needed.Aside from making tea and coffee, I’ve found this kettle useful for other tasks too. It’s great for quickly heating water for cooking, like when I need to blanch vegetables or make instant noodles. The quick heating time is a real time-saver in the kitchen, and the ergonomic handle makes pouring comfortable and spill-free.Overall, despite the hiccup with its durability, this electric kettle is a solid choice. It does its job well, and the temperature control options make it versatile for various uses. If you’re looking for a reliable kettle and don’t mind the possibility of a repair down the line, I’d recommend giving this one a try.
