10800 Boring Jig Kit

Easy to use and accurate. As a wood worker I have built a half dozen or so custom interior doors in the past using the inexpensive plastic boring jigs sold at the hardware store. But they wear out after a few doors. When I took on a job to built all the interior doors in a new house, I looked for a better solution. The Classic Engineering jig is so much easier to use and much more accurate than the inexpensive plastic jigs. The kit also comes with a tool to mark where the strike plate goes on the jamb. I use this in combination with an different jig to router the strike plate. The kit does not include anything to help router the hinge recess. I used another jig for this.

I replaced my Porter Cable - which I tossed - with this boring jig. It is superb. Every piece is very well made and well thought-out. No plastic and very sturdy. I knocked out five doors with this beauty in no time and I am sure i will get dozens more out of it. I got ten doors - yes, 10 - out of the Porter Cable. And, the manufacturer makes it easy to get any replacement parts needed.

I purchased this kit several months ago, based on the excellent customer reviews. The reason for the purchase was (and is) I had several expensive speciality interior doors to install and I wanted to get things right the first time. This is versus my normal practice of having to do many things twice. I installed the kit per the instructions, started boring and within 3 minutes (or less) the bore bit sheared at the connection to the chank. I did not torque it and the pressure was moderate to light. Based on the others feedback, I suspect mine had a manufacturing flaw (not to sweet on a 300$ item). Now I get to waste my time trying to return it or get a replacement bit. Needless to say, I am disappointed hence my 1 star ....

The jig is very precise and bores both holes absolutely dead on - but the 2-1/8 bit in my kit won't cut press board veneer doors. I don't know if I got a bad bit or what. I'm going to try to get a new bit because the jig is excellent. So anyway, since the brand new $50 bid wouldn't cut, I found that the jig still works great using a good hole saw for the 2-1/8 hole and the kit's 1 inch space bit for the latch hole. But it would be perfect if the company warranty's the bit my kit came with that won't cut.

The instructions were sparce and left much to be desired, but once I figured this item out, it was brilliant. The device is expensive, but saves lots of time and frustration, puts in the lock straight and on the first try. If you have multiple lokcs to install, it is well worth the price.

I don't do a ton of doors so I have been getting by with hole saws and such. Hole saws take a lot of time and they can be difficult to perfectly line up from one side of the door to the other. I finally bought this kit and man what a difference! I have used it for about 16 doors so far and it is one sweet tool. Each door has come out perfect. I used to fear doors, now I actually look forward to doing them with this tool and my Porter Cable plane. I will buy the carbide bits when the steel bits start getting dull.

Excellent product. When the bit dulls I would suggest the carbide replacement, better, faster and longer lasting, but $$. I use painters tape on the face of the jig when drilling into finished doors just in case I move it when tightening. (from experience)

This product works great,had existing holes in doors & had to make them larger it worked like a champ, was hoping it would for the price, I would recommend this jig to anyone.
