Best of Kenny Burrell (Guitar Recorded Versions)

~ This 104-page book, like other volumes issued in the Hall Leonard "Guitar Recorded Versions" series, contains transcriptions of essentially every note played by Kenny Burrell on 14 tunes. The transcriptions by Pete Billmann and Jeff Jacobson in regular musical notation as well as tab notation appear to be accurate and provide considerable insight into Kenny's chord voicing as well his single-note line development.~ Since some of the tunes are written by Kenny, the transcriptions also provide insight into his composing and arranging skills.~ Highly recommended to any intermediate or advanced guitarist who wants to gain insight into the improvisational melodic and chordal style of one of the best musicians to every play the guitar.~ I have listed below the titles of the tunes that are transcribed in the book as well as the name of the CD that the original Kenny Burrell version of the tune upon which the transcriptions are based. I bought this based on a 12 year old review of the book. Apparently, it used to be better.It is now only 95 pages. The current song list is now:* All Night Long (1956) .... I found this book helpful. I like Kenny because he is not overly fast and technical but more style and taste - good to learn for beginners like I.Pro - everything is tabbed by Kenny so you know it is correct.Con - None of the solo's are covered, they are improved. So no tabs on the extra solo's mostly just the core melody.Over All - worth purchasing to having something different from Wes Montgomery & Joe Pass books.

The book is needless to say very nice, but I am disappointed that "Midnight blue" and "Chitlins Con Carne" are in there. In the description of the book "many more" is confusing, as well as one of the buyers who stated that the book contained them. I think we are talking about two different books in here. Please provide further details about the book you are selling.

What a let down , advertised to contain the classic songs i wanted , Midnight Blue and Chitlins con carne.No it doesn't . it would cost me even more money to send back to Amazon. This deal is a rip off.The descripion of the product was ambiguous when ordered.But again in case you missed it : The best of Burrell is MISSING the best. MIDNIGHT BLUE + CHITLINS CON CARNE ARE NOT COVERED.If you like the other stuff : All night long /All of you/ Body&soul/Broadway/Cheetah/everyday i have the blues/ freight trane/mood indigo/now see how you are/phinupi/satin doll/tenderly/a weaver of dreams.Go ahead .

you want to get the version with 14 transcriptions not the one with 13, the one with 14 includes chitlins con carne and midnight blue...

KENNY　BURRELLの魅力は、ブルージーな演奏だろう。この本は、ブルース系の曲を多く掲載しており、類書にくらべて、選曲のポイントが明確だ。曲目は、ほかの方がレビューに書いてる。肝心の譜面が、微妙に音源と合ってない気がするところが多々ある。採譜者の考え方もあるだろう。KENNY　BURRELLは、ピッキングのくせからか、不思議なタイミングで音が鳴っていることがある。あと、引っ込んだ音も多い。そういう事情もあるかもしれない。ただ、全体的には、オリジナルに肉薄している。ストックフレーズを増やすというようなアプローチで行くならば、ブルース系フレーズの宝庫であり、非常に参考になる一冊。もっとも、個人的には、彼のトーンも大きな魅力。そういうことは、本書では教えてくれない。

As a long time Kenny Burrell fan and intermediate jazz guitarist this book is a godsend. The transcriptions are note perfect.I own almost all the songs in this book. If the book came with a CD of all the original tracks this product would be perfect. I realize that would make it more expensive but I think it would be worth the added cost.

I bought this as a kindle book but find the tab rather too small to read on my laptop and can't find a way of magnifying it in the kindle app as it's not part of the font adjustment. I won't say it's impossible to see it but it's annoyingly small. The content of the book is very good though showing a good selection of KB's songs. So if you want to learn some of KB's style/ licks and can put up with the tab size then it's a good reference book.

I wish Amazon had listed the content of this publication, because the 2 songs I bought it for are missing. On various sites the listing is: All Night Long * Boy and Soul * Chitlins Con Carne * Freight Trane * Midnight Blue * Now See How You Are * Phinupi * Satin Doll * Tenderly * A Weaver of Dreams * and more. But Chitlins Con Carne and Midnight Blue are missing. Very disappointed.
