Lisle 44210 Universal Emergency Brake Tool

Made a difficult job very easy. Without this tool I don't know how one person could get the parking brake cable back on to the brake shoes.

Just as expected from the brand.

10/27/23This tool made it quite easy for me to reattach my parking-brake cable, which I would otherwise have been unable to do. But it would have been nice if there were better documentation so that I would have known whether it would apply in my case before ordering it, and whether I would be able to use it by myself.So, I took a few photos to help others see how it works and how it can be used by a single person. I applied a touch of grease to the spring to help the jaws slide into position, placed the cable against a small piece of 3/4" plywood, and pushed the jaws into the spring as shown in the photos at the top of the review-section. The rest is as easy as screwing up, although I included photos as evidence.Unfortunately, I had to detach the lever from the rest of the shoe-assembly in order to get it onto the cable by myself. So, I had to assemble the shoe assembly after attaching the cable to the lever, which was a pain and required considerable futzing around to figure it out. With someone else to hold the brake shoe assembly and hook the lever over the cable, it would have been far easier.

EASILY RETRACTS THE SPRINGS! Your nightmares will NO LONGER BE after using this!! Drum Brake e brake cable struggles are a thing of the PAST!! LOL!

Worth the price. Made a hard job much easier. I'll probably only use it once every few years but its nice to have around when needed.

Doesn’t slide into position as easily as I’d hoped. Doesn’t hold the cable as well as I thought it should either. Bottom line: it’s useful, but far from easy.

I have always thought that Lisle made qualityspecialist tools. No more. This tool is a pieceof junk. Cheaply made, badly designed and will not do the job I purchased it for-replacing the emergency cable at brake endon 98 Tahoe w/drum rears

For years and years I was always always compressing the parking brake cable spring by hand or with the aid of pliers. or vise grips. However, the did a rear brake job on a 2007 Saturn Ion and thought the "Horse Shoe" spring was going to be the hardest well i for sure thought wrong as i spent six hours fighting with the parking brake cable. I threw in the towel four times as it was unbelievable and i consider myself quite experienced. After i completed the job i told myself NEVER NEVER again and found this tool and have since owning the tool used it once and WOW, truly no words this was a life saver. This tool necessary doesn't work for every brake job and may only use it a handful of times but when you do need it then this will be a life saver. I cannot believe how easier this tool makes it, as i do not understand why i didn't purchase this way before. If you don't own this only, seriously consider.
