I Strongly Recommend This!
Amazing matte box for the price! I needed something that was able to use both 4x4 and 4x5.65 glass filters, but couldn't drop $2,000 on an Arri or O'Connor model. The build quality is awesome and it's light weight! Avoid the Chinese 3rd party matte boxes, their quality is sub-par and most won't hold 4x4 glass filters, some will even scratch them. Spend the extra $ on this! Not only is it a great matte box, but it will protect your filters too.

Sachtler Ace Matte Box
I'm very happy with this matte box. It is lightweight (under 2 lbs with flags and filter frames, 1 lb., 10 oz. without flags, considerably less than half what my Asian matte box weighs) and compact (the sunshade is only 9" x 5-1/2") - just the right weight and size for DSLR/M. It comes with 2 filter frames of each size (4x4 square & 4x5.65 rectangular, so you can mix or match) and the rear filter stage is rotatable left and right 90 degrees. The front stage is fixed. The rod bridge accepts 15mm rods at 60mm spacing and is mountable in two positions (3.3in. & 4.3in., rod centers to lens center) and can also be arranged to put the fixing knob on either side. The matte box is easily and quickly removable from the rods for lens changes. I thought I would miss the swing-away feature of my previous matte box, but this is just as fast and convenient, saves weight, and is also a more rigid setup when fixed. The side flags can be mounted on either side to put the angled ends (see photo) on top or bottom to clear the top flag for different lighting conditions. One nice feature - the fixing knobs for the flags are captive so you can't lose them even when loose. One minor complaint though. The rods can't extend beyond the front of the rod bridge, with the bridge mounted in the small lens (3.3in.) position, if you want to rotate the rear filter stage - there is interference there. This is not mentioned in the manual, but is not really a problem since a matte box is usually the last (forward most) item on the rods.Another thing not mentioned in the manual, or published elsewhere that I could find, is the diameter of the clamping interface. It is 143mm or 5.630 inches. You can download the manual from their website.Legendary Sachtler quality. Form, fit, function, and finish are all excellent.Highly recommended if you want quality, light weight, compact size, simplicity consistent with versatility, and good value.
