The Zoom H1n Handy Recorder is an easy-to-use, versatile stereo digital audio recorder that fits into the palm of your hand. However, in this iteration, Zoom has incorporated several features to make operation even simpler. Whereas the Zoom H1 featured a single record button on the front of the recorder and a whole array of buttons along the side designed for play/pause, rewind/fast forward, and diving into menus, the H1n features buttons where you can easily see them, on the front of the recorder. Now you can go from recording to pausing, and from stopping to navigating between tracks, all with your thumb. Also provided are four buttons above the record function that let you change the sample rate and resolution, apply a low-cut filter for mitigating rumble, turn the built-in limiter on and off, and enact the auto-level function, which automatically sets the gain for you. The H1n is geared for musicians, journalists, podcasters, and more, recording WAV and MP3 files to meet your professional needs. The H1n has a stereo X/Y microphone configuration that captures a realistic stereo image. The unit records audio to microSD or microSDHC flash memory cards, supporting capacities up to 32GB. The H1n records WAV audio at rates up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, and MP3 audio at rates up to 320 kbps. A high-speed USB 2.0 port allows you to easily transfer data to your Mac or Windows computer. The unit also functions as an audio interface, allowing you to record directly from the Zoom H1n to your favorite DAW. 2 AAA batteries are included. Kit Includes: -Zoom H1n Recorder -2 AAA Batteries -Limited 1-Year Warranty -On Stage Foam Windscreen, Black -Y Cable 1/8 Inch TRS to Dual 1/4 Inch TS Cable -Photo4Less Camera and Lens Cleaning Cloth -SanDisk 32GB Card -Energizer AAA Batteries

WOW - I Thought the Geese taking off from my pond were in my family room
I have had this unit for a couple months and only casually have fooled around with it. I live somewhat rurally in the UP of Michigan and nothing like hearing the early morning wildlife celebrate spring. There are a couple pairs of Geese on my pond this morning and they were doing a slow buildup of vocalizing wanting to take off. That was cool and all...but then they took off. You can hear the splashes of water as they get going then take flight and fly left to right from me about 35 yards away, You hear the wind pass across their wings as the honk and fade away. I played it back on my stereo and sure enough the speakers play it back in stereo with the majority of sound on one side and then shifts to the other. Very impressed. Only problem was it also picked up my stomach growl at the very end as I hadn't had breakfast yet. Pricy but Worth it!

Great tool for investigating!
Recorded pesty neighbors while they shoot at my security cameras with bb and pellet guns from the wood line! In the photos you can see black hooded faces. All while their Adult superior sits in the woods and watches.

Don't buy this if you're a journalist.
The sound is fine from this, but the problems are many. Dropped recordings, a clunky interface, appalling power consumption. The list goes on, it's not a handy tool if you're using it multiple times per day and relying on the integrity of your recordings. The worst sin though, by far, and an unfathomable design choice, is putting the delete button right above the slider for locking or powering up/down the device. Avoid like the plague and go for something more user-friendly.

READ IF USING LAVALIER MICS
Sound quality is very good. I will say it is similar to my shotgun mic- the Sony brand for the A6000- but overall good. Easy to setup and use with detailed instructions. Batteries did seem to go pretty quickly but I may have just left it on too long between recordings. I also had issues setting up lav mics because apparently you need a TRS audio jack instead of the TRRS which is most commonly sold. If you want to be able to use 2 lav mics at the same time you MUST buy TRS mics.

DON"T BUY THIS!
If you are looking for a digital recorder for MP3 or WAV please do not buy this piece of junk! I spent hours trying to get the right distance, volume using the lo cut and the limiter and even the POS auto level on this little plastic hunk of junk. The only thing it will do is record your voice and even then it's not clear!Zoom really fails with this one. The feel is all plastic, like a toy, the mics are worse than the my cheapest video camera from China and the size is micro. I wouldn't give you 20 bucks for it! I have been playing music and recording for years and my old tape cassette boom box from the 1980's is 100 times better than this POS!!!!
