AMAZING fighting game controller - not just budget option
If you are looking into this controller for the purpose of playing fighting games, look no further. As far as fighting game pads go, this is an amazing option. At $20, the Retro-Bit Saturn controller isn't just a steal for the cost, it's one of the best fighting game pads I've used. The classic Saturn D-PAD style is second to none. The buttons are responsive. It may feel a little bit light, but it is sturdy and has withstood more than a year of play with no signs of wear. The PS4 Hori Fighting Commander 4 is the only FGC dedicated game pad I'd rank above it, but only slightly. The build quality is a bit nicer and PS4 compatibility is great, but the overall playing experience is very comparable and that pad is lost to time being resold on eBay for $60-70+. Consider that an A+ option and this one, shipped to you the next day for a fraction of the cost, the A option. I'm not sure I've ever left an Amazon review and after some perusing of other controllers for fun, I felt inspired to share because there's simply no reason to move away from this thing. Buy it and enjoy.

Very Good Controller even beyond the nostalgia
I've always had a soft spot for the Genesis controller it fits perfectly in my hands and the way shape of the controller gives plenty of room to adjust your hands and fingers to how it feels best to you... similarly the Saturn controller was also a personal favorite even though I Only had a few 3rd Party controllers, but the Saturn was always just a 6 button Genesis controller with two shoulder buttons slapped onto it. I needed a D-Pad based controller for some platformers (Pizza Tower specifically) and so I thought to finally pick this up after eyeing it for a while. It's not the best controller I have ever used... the shoulder buttons could be a tad click-ier and have more travel, the D-Pad could be a bit tighter (closer to the 6 button genesis is my favorite but I figure the Saturn controller was looser), but in all honesty in the heat of gameplay I barely notice any of these issues. The shoulder buttons work perfectly well in gameplay and the D-Pad, besides accidentally pressing up once or twice, works flawlessly. Just be patient with Steam and it detecting the controller, as I had issues with it, and eventually you can get rolling with it. Overall I am very happy with this controller. Edit: Almost a year on and I think this is my favorite controller for platformers, period. I know people have trouble with Retro-Bit's build quality, and its fair but in my experience atleast it has lasted a year with some pretty rough handling and the controller has yet to quit working. I clocked in about 100 hours into Pizza Tower and it still works just as well as when I got it.

AWESOME Switch controller, poor choice of ferrite placement.
Short version: This controller is an absolute must-have for fighting games on the Switch, but you're going to have issues connecting it to the dock. The Sega Saturn gamepad was one of the best controllers ever made, with top-of-the-line design, ergonomics, and functionality. Retro-Bit has faithfully recreated this gamepad for modern platforms, and it performs every bit as well as the original. For that reason alone, this is a must-buy for fighting game fans, or even someone who wants a well-made, responsive controller for games that don't feature overly-conplicated controls. Where this gamepad falls short is in the placement of the ferrite bead on the cord. While this is necessary to negate electromagnetic interference (and the closer it's placed to the end of the cord, the better,) it's been unfortunately placed on this cord at a point that lines up precisely with the Switch dock's back cover cord notch. I say "unfortunately" because the bead is just too big to fit through that notch, making it impossible to close the dock cover. It's still possible to connect the controller & close the dock cover, but it's an unnecessary hassle that shouldn't be an issue to begin with. Of course, you can always just not close the dock cover, but it's there for a reason & this is still an oversight on Retro-Bit's part. Once you've got it connected, there's still the issue of not having enough buttons on the gamepad to perform all the functions of a Switch controller, but Retro-Bit has programmed in a few "Start + __" commands that allow functions like the Home button without actually having a dedicated Home button. Overall, at $20 it's really a required purchase. And once you're actually playing with it, you'll be impressed with it's responsiveness and performance. I just wish they'd rethought that damned cord.

Great Controller
Bought this to make some of my Sega games on PC feel a bit more authentic and it's been great for playing Saturn, Sega CD, Genesis and other games. I have not used an actual Saturn pad, but the feel of this one is quite good. Some say the D-pad is a bit looser than the original, but I found it to be responsive and usable regardless. The face buttons all feel good, but sometimes I notice they may not register unless you are very deliberate with the push. This may be from them having more travel distance than SNES controller's buttons that I am used to, but after a few minutes of play my hands are adjusted to them and the overall feel is comfortable. The controller is light in the hands and has a good feel and I have not noticed any discomfort when playing. Been using it daily for a month with no issues so far, great cable length and quality as well. I am curious to try out the wireless or others someday, would be neat to see them try to make the Saturn's 3D Control Pad someday, as if they can match this quality with it, I could see it being a nice option to have on hand for some games.

Excellent D-pad makes it worth it
I got this controller for one reason: the excellent d-pad. I use it to play shmups and retro games, mostly on Steam, but also occasionally on Switch and Retrocade. One issue is dealing with different button letters and layouts, but you get used to it, and most games are pretty customizable nowadays. The controller is quite a bit smaller and lighter than what people are used to nowadays (I'm fine with that- I actually like smaller controllers). The face buttons don't have the greatest feel initially, but get a little better over time. The shoulder buttons are a little oddly angled, but you get used to them. But what I came for is the D-pad, and this is where it delivers- it has a really good feel. I would say a little better than the Switch Pro's, and leaps ahead of PS4's and Xbox One's d-pad both of which are total failures for anything other than menu navigation in my opinion. So if you're looking primarily for a better d-pad, and don't want the hassle of recharging batteries and wireless connection headaches, you can't go wrong with this one...this version of the Saturn controller was one of the best non-analog controller designs ever. NOTE: I would take those one star reviews with a grain of salt...my bet is that they mistakenly put their review up for the Model 1 version on the Model 2 product page (Model 1 was known to have some issues that were improved for the Model 2, particularly regarding the d-pad). I believe the way to tell is that the Model 2 box will say "For PC, Mac, Steam, AND SWITCH"...the Model 1 isn't compatible with the Switch.

Feels like the original Saturn controller and works great with Emulation.
10/10 Works well with Retroarch and Ymir emulators. Feels like the original controller.

Dpad let me down, but the rest is good? *important UPDATE*
So I wanted a USB Genesis controller for PC Sega collections, and got the Saturn one as it's similar enough and supposed to be amazing (the few times I played one as a kid I barely remember it) but the exact thing everyone raves about, the D-Pad, is the weakest part of the controller. The Dpad is loose as hell. I feel like I need to take it apart and somehow make the Dpad more sturdy. The other buttons are great! But that one aspect makes me wonder if I should bother with any of Retro it's other controllers or maybe the 6 Button Genesis or 8 button or whatever is better? Idk, I don't remember first party Genssis controllers Dpads being anywhere close to this loose. When I press to the right I hardly feel it register, and forget about diagonal inputs. Maybe the new Xbox Series controller I plan to get will have a great Dpad for the games that really demand a good one. UPDATE: So now the left shoulder button is... stuck? If I mess with it it seems to click very, very dully if I press the right spot. I could take it apart, but I think I should just get it replaced at this point. These seem to be kinda hit and miss, though I do like the rest a lot. I plan to order a wireless one in white for an imported Saturn, but IDK you can always order one and either go DIY if you have issues or get a replacement.

It has some hardware conflict
Windows would install this as generic pad but there's a conflict in the hardware. The D pad keeps locking on right direction, as if the button is pressed. It only worked once without this glitch. When it worked, it was glorious... But now it's in the drawer of useless toys...
