The Evolution of the French Press
After tiring of the compromises of k-cup and drip coffee, I've been experimenting with different immersion methods. Like the aeropress and clever coffee dripper, and will continue to use, but...finally tried a french press and really liked the coffee it produced. However, didn't care for all the sediment that went along with it. This brought me to the espro press. Nothing is perfect, but I can see the espro press as my main way to make coffee for the time being. It produces a wonderfully complex coffee (using course ground fresh beans). Although I like all the coffees produced by the methods already mentioned (aeropress, clever coffee, french press), I have to put the espro press coffee at the head of the pack.Hardly any sediment (beats the french press by a lot). Produces a much hotter cup (the aeropress and clever coffee products are luke warm by comparison). The most important thing to me is the bold flavor of the espro press coffee. Now the downside. As others have noted, I don't seem to get as much liquid from the espro press as from my Frieling french press. I usually do three plunges, which seems to extract all the liquid I can get. I'd say the smooth, bold sediment free coffee I get is worth it.A clean-up tip I learned from an internet search. Remove the plunger and rinse (fairly easy). Then fill the pot with water and pour into a kitchen strainer Kitchenaid Classic 7-Inch Strainer, Red Easy to dump most of the grounds in the strainer into the trash.Update: 8/24/13I've been happily using my Espro Press for quite some time. I grind my own beans, and have always use a course grind recommended for a traditional French Press. Today I forgot to re-set my burr grinder and used a much finer grind setting, a very fine setting used for drip coffee (a 16 on my Baratza, vs a 35 used for French Press). The result was quite an eye opener. I liked the resulting coffee even better: more flavor and depth. There was no added sediment in the cup or inside the filter when I cleaned it. Tried three different types of coffee, and the results were great every time. If you've been using a course grind, try a finer setting. The results may surprise you.

Great look, lousy coffee, overpriced
Beautifully crafted & nice to look at. The unique filter design does not allow the full flavor of the bean to pass. I had to use one third more beans to produce a less than satisfactory cup compared to a Bodum press. Furthermore, the filter housing is made of plastic. For $20 less you can buy A Bodum or Frieling press that is made just as well and has an all stainless plunger & filter housing. The Frieling is particularly outstanding...exceptionally well made! Even the lid is double walled stainless.

Still needs work.
Its a well made product with one ( for some) design flaw. As some have stated it does leave a good amount of coffee left behind at the bottom. I returned mine for this reason. Just to much waste. The coffee was nice and smooth, but it still let a bit of grit to get into the coffee. It makes a great cup of coffee, just not as good as my AeroPress. The double insulated container would be a nice touch if the one I got was not the single cup version.Cleaning is also a bit messy. Not coffee grounds all over the place ,messy, but hands get wet taking it apart, coffee on hands etc. Its not horrible, but again, just not as nice as the aeropress. Not to sound like an ad for aeropress, but that is hands down the best cup of coffee i have ever made, and for a fraction of the cost.

A great cup of coffee--for a price
I am a coffee fanatic. I gave my college commencement address about coffee. I have driven 170 miles for coffee. My opinion of a neighborhood has a nearly perfect correlation with the number and quality of coffee shops. So it must mean something when I say that I plan to use this Espro Press a lot. Hey, I really like it. Best press pot coffee I've ever had. In fact, the only immersion method that compares is the $11,000 Clover brewing system, so needless to say this is a better bargain. But by home brewing standards, this is a costly option on a per-cup basis.French press coffee tends to be very bold (full-bodied), while pour-over methods tend to reveal a much larger range of flavors. Note that bold does NOT mean bitter: properly prepared French press coffee is mildly bittersweet and somewhat sour, like good dark chocolate. For this reason--did I mention I also love chocolate?--I tend to favor the French press approach. That said, I miss those subtler notes. And let's not even get started on that crap in the bottom of the mug.The Espro Press gets rid of both of those things. The flavor is exquisite, as is the color and aroma. The construction is beautiful. It's easier to clean than a traditional French press. It's not going to shatter. Here's the thing, though: it requires 22g of coffee for 10oz of water. And when you pour it out, you only get 8oz of coffee back. So we're at 22g / 8 oz. By comparison, my Bodum "12oz" press gives me back 10oz of coffee for 15g. That's almost twice the coffee per ounce of output."Who cares?" you might ask. Well, really good coffee can go for $12-$20 per pound. For some of the top-shelf, mail-order outfits, you can expect to exceed that with shipping. So an 8oz cup of Espro Press could be setting you back $1.25 or more. This is not the end of the world: a 16oz drip from Starbucks is about $2.50 where I live, and this is a whole lot nicer than that. But it's probably twice what you're spending on coffee now.Best brew method for the espro press:Let your boiling water cool slightly before starting.Measure 22g of coffee on a press grind. (For the Baratza Virtuoso, try a 34.)Sprinkle the first 2-3 ounces of water over the coffee, being careful to wet all of it evenly.Start your timer. After 1 minute, continue sprinkling the water until you have 10 ounces. The coffee will foam if it is fresh. If you were unsuccessful at getting all the coffee to foam, gently agitate the top of the coffee with the back of a spoon, being careful not to mix too vigorously--you will over-extract the fines. After 3 more minutes (4 minutes total), depress the plunger slowly. Immediately pour into a mug.

Super Produkt.

too small
the press is only big enough. to make 1 big mug or 2 very small mugs of coffee. i don't know why anyone would make a press so small. grinding the beans/ cleaning etc takes time. it barely seems worth it for such a small amount of coffee. they should have made it 12-15ozi am happy with everything other than the size.
