Best bang for the buck!

I bought this set specifically for putting plant info on plant tags without worrying about the info disappearing. They work well for this purpose, and I have used them on plastic, copper and zinc labels with good success. One feature would make them much more user friendly, and that would be an indent dot in the side of the punch that would insure you were holding the letter/number in the correct position. When working quickly, I have managed to have sideways and upside down letters because all the sides of the punch are exactly the same. These punch letters are 6mm - approx 1/4 inch in size making them easier to read, but the 3mm - approx 1/8 inch set would allow more information on the tag, so you might want to consider which you prefer. Given the very reasonable purchase price and the heavy duty quality of the punches, this was a very good value.

The set I received has two identical punches for zero and oh. Perhaps this is an error. I suppose I could ask if I can get the other symbol, but it doesn't matter much for me. I'll just file a diagonal notch in one of those punches to denote zero.I use the punches to generate random bitcoin secret keys. Mix the punches for a minute or two (like a miser sifting through a pile of gold coins), then stamp the 36 character string onto a piece of steel. Voilà, a fireproof record giving me access to my bitcoin. I'm not saying precisely how I compute the actual key from that permutation of 36 symbols.This also works for generating a master password and any other situation where you need a completely unpredictable key together with a fireproof record of it.

I've never really done any leather work, but I wanted to label all my holsters for what gun goes in them (this can be a problem when you have many of the same size handgun). Unfortunately, while this set did mark the leather, it is so faint that I can barely read the markings. I may be using it wrong, but I gave the punch several good sharp hits with a hammer, with the holster resting on a 2x6. Ultimately it did do the job I was asking fir it to do, albeit badly, so I gave it three stars, then I bumped it up one star for the posibility that I am not doing it right.

The plastic case holding the punch set was broken. It was shipped in a little bubble wrap pocket, (not such a good idea with a couple pounds of hardened steel inside a plastic case). However, the stamps were undamaged, and as I needed them right away I did not contact the seller. After reading my initial review, the seller was very prompt in supplying a new case without even being asked!!!! what service! I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because they really only work on softer metals. I used them to etch herb labels onto antique silver spoons and they worked great, but when I tried to etch some of the knives (stainless cutting edge), I couldn't even make a dent.

stamps clearly...any complaints over them breaking must be due to operator error...If you ever stamp metal, you should always heat the stamping surface anyways...Cold hammering is a bad idea...regardless of how well the tool is tempered.

The box holding the stamps was broken on receipt. The stamps themselves are smaller than I expected. The stamp body is 1/4", but the letters and numbers are much smaller and tend to be a little crooked. The steel seems a bit soft and did not leave a good impression on the trailer tongue I needed them for. I needed to pound them quite a bit to get a good mark and the end of the stamp was slightly mushroomed afterward.They did end up doing their job and the seller contacted me immediately after I posted my review offering to exchange the stamps or discount my price. I found that to be excellent customer service and will definitely consider this company for future purchases on that fact alone.

I am one that does my own yard work and have 4 bug , weed and what ever sprayers , and can never remember what is in each one ,So i have made metal tages to hang on each one , and can move them from sprayer to sprayer for what ever i have in them. I tryed marker but it would rub off.Just think if you think you are spraying for bugs and it is weed killer, and you spray it on plants and grass, it would not be good The stamps mark the metal very clear and will not rub off, and are east to use.
