Chestnut Brown!
This is a wonderful ink, and the color is a true chestnut brown which on my paper subtly shades with that slight purple hue that you see when light reflects of chestnuts. I'm using it in my old Osmiroid 65 which I've owned from 1968. The nib is about a .09 mm Italic and it shows off this ink to advantage, giving the writing an antique feel. The flow is excellent, not so wet as to disgorge the ink over the page but just dry enough so that I don't have to blot. The papers I use tend to be relatively "cheap". I just use my fountain pens on any paper I have available. There is no feathering nor ghosting or bleed through in my Amazon Basics Classic Notebook which I'm presently using for my daily journal. As a lifelong fountain pen user, I can say that I've never had a better brown ink.

I am loving these inks by Pilot iroshizuku
This is a dark brown and very pretty. Smooth writing/drawing with the different fountain pens and glass dip pens I tried it with. This is the fourth color I purchased from Pilot/Iroshizuki. Will buy more too.

A beautiful color to sketch with in my fountain pen....
I love this color... Iroshizuku Yama-Guri...a perfect brown shade as I sketch with pen and ink. In fact the whole line of PILOT Iroshizuku inks have so many wonderful colors ..The ink flows so freely and smooth. It's a pleasure to have as an artist. I'm fully impressed.

Nice color
Nice antique color. The thickness is just right (flows well and one dip lasts quite long with my daughter’s needle point nib

It is really dark in all my pens.
I wanted a dark brown and I got it. Its nice and wet and writes really well. I put this in a Pilot 912 FA and wanted to see if it would leave tones and NO its very dark. Which is fine Ill easily be able to use this for work. I tend to like lighter browns and sepias and had no dark browns.

Very good ink
Created a think EF line, dries quick. Doesn’t feather. What more can I say. Very good ink.

Dries to a deep brown
I absolutely love this one. I normally reserve brown inks for my coffee journal or coffee themed pen pal letters. This one I have used in my regular journal and am very pleased. The color flows well.Dries a bit faster than my other inks which is great.

Iroshizuku Yama-Guri is a wet, smooth, dark, desaturated brown.
Iroshizuku Yama-Guri is an unusual brown. It's not super saturated. It has a hint of paleness. It's dark, but not so dark that you can't see the brown. It's not easy to describe -- it's definitely not the warm golden brown most people think of when they think of brown. But that makes it lovely, and it's an ink that works well in a professional environment. It runs wet and it's a very smooth feeling ink in your pen.

Costly?
I won't comment about the cost as it's costly as per indian standards. But for fountain pens encaustic, it's a must buy ink to try. It's really good, wetness and flows are just perfect. I have tried it with Indian pens -> Becomes very very wet, specially with ebonite feeds. With European pens - perfect gold standard. With Japanese and Chinese pens.. It's meant for them.So overall really happy with the ink

A dark, work appropriate, winner of an ink.
I bought this ink from JapanPremium, delivery took about 3 weeks but as this came straight from Japan for very reasonable postage costs I did not mind, it was certainly dispatched very quickly - within a few hours.I love this ink. Predominantly used in a Lamy 2000 medium and it is a good combination. As other reviewers have mentioned it is a very distinct brown. Dark and saturated it screams class and has rapidly replaced Noodler's 54th Massachusetts as my favourite work ink. I never thought I would find a brown that is work appropriate. The flow is great, like all Iroshizuku inks, and there is a touch of shading but not too much to distract. I have experienced a little nib creep if the pen has been pocketed for a while, that sai, it is a very easy ink to clean up and washes off skin very easily. For those who have yet to experience the joy that is having an Iroshizuku bottle on your desk I can only advise that you buy at least one of the line up immediately. They are very impressive in real-life, photos do not do them justice. It would almost be worth having one for ornamental reasons alone so the fact that the ink is fantastic too makes this actually good value. Ok, I may be justifying another bottle but I really am that pleased with it.

Superb ink, and worth every penny in the right pen...
This is my ink of choice (in Wild Chestnut - Yama Guri) for my Namiki Capless with bladder fill. Some have said that the Iroshizuku inks are a bit on the wet side and that is probably an accurate statement but as I use an F nib on the capless it's never been an issue - no leaks, runs, skips or clogs ever. I also used a M nib with it for a while with no problems, but I think it's better suited to the F. I particularly love the Yama Guri because of the way the deep chestnut brown appears as the ink dries on the paper (after looking black for the first few seconds). Yes it is expensive compared to some other bottled inks, but if you've already invested in a quality pen then it seems churlish to skimp on the ink (unlless you're the kind of person who would spend a fortune on a Ferrari and then economise by filling it with agricultural diesel :-) )

Not so great! Doesn't live up to it's reputation
This particular shade (Yama-Guri) of Iroshizuku does not live up to it's legendary reputation. It is not only thin but the colour is not at all as demonstrated in the advertisement. It's neither brown nor black (at best it's only a dirty, muddy, shabby and poor black)!Writing this review I by no means intend to undervalue or berate Iroshizuku inks . They are a good brand of marvellous inks and I respect their quality but this particular shade just did not come upto my expectations.I am not at all happy with the product and will attempt to return it.

Impressing
Iroshizuku inks never stop impressing me there is something special about every color in this collection. Yama-guri is a dark brown which is very close to being black. I love it because it is a dark ink which can be used in everyday activities, it is not flashy, but it is not as bland as your typical black ink it has much more character. As always this ink is very well behaved it helps the pen write smoothly, but it is not super wet just the right spot, as for nib creeps i have seen only some minor ones.Love the ink don't doubt in buying an iroshizuku you will NOT be disappointed.
