I would like to know who the genius is who came up with the idea of cramming this art supply product into a plastic tube?

So if the guy who came up the the idea of cramming this art product into a plastic tube is a genius, what does that make those that purchased it? Just askin' ;)

Would this product be strong enough to stay on a vehicle?

you probably want a stronger magnet.. i made a magnet for my car with it and it's stayed so far, but... i just don't think it's secure. i made shades for the windows when my dogs and i were on a road trip and the magnet didn't hold very well on the door and i spent a lot of time refastening it and eventually just closing it in the door so it couldn't move. and i used a towel to cover the window on the road coming home.

Can this hold a small piece of sheet steel?

It depends completely on the weight and size of the sheet metal. This magnetic "rubber" isn't very strong magnetically. I don't think it is the right material for what you want to do.

if i cut it in half and try to stick it to each other using the magnetic side, will it hold?

No it will not. I have pieces left over and they are stuck on the side of my toolbox & I just tried two pieces about 4 inch x 4 inch and as long as the one piece is still on the toolbox it holds to a certain degree being that it is on metal. If you hold each piece in your hand it just barely holds but it really starts to slide off so I'd say no. Hope this helps.
