Good but a little outdated
Gordon Smith puts it altogether in this book. The only detractors is it was published in 1998. If there is a more resent printing, get that one instead. Now for the good parts: Mr. Smith writes in an entertaining style that puts the reader at ease. He uses Insurance Adjuster language but in such a way as to be understandable. I haven't read the entire book yet, but will recommend this to anyone needing good material to start your Insurance Adjusting career. As an aside, I would like to meet Mr. Smith someday just for enlightenments sake.

So, you want to know about adjusting?
The book was very well written. Direct and to the point. He started off very slowly, Covering material everyone knows.Within three or four chapters he really gets into the meat of the adjusting business. He covers many real world situations andmany abstract practices. If your interested in Adjusting I would buy and real it. I found the the Adjusting Business is not for me.Too much detail!

Not specifically for catastrophe adjusters
This book starts off a bit long winded but goes into detail that everyone studying the art of the adjuster will find helpful. The chapter headings are not particularly useful since the author uses them to display his wry sense of humor rather than using them to point the reader to a particular topic in the text.

Other than that I still pulled useful information from it
Read reviews on book before purchasing. Half the book relates to opening your own business and the ins and outs. Second half relates to claims adjusting. Book is dated, refers to cassette tapes in vehicles and businesses with limited fax capabilities. Other than that I still pulled useful information from it.

Fist off, this work is DATED. Times have changed but procedures have not. Very informative if you want to open your own office. I'm approaching it as a trainee. I'm trying to look, listen and learn. Overall, very informative

Great book
So far I'm very pleased with the book. I'm new to this entire profession and really want to be a "Storm Trooper" as Gordon Smith puts it. He's been a very great teacher so far, I'm understanding what you need in order to begin the career and who my enemies are while doing my duties. I couldn't ask for a more blunt and experienced author!
