How does the mouthpiece function? Biting down on the end of the nozzle is the only thing that appears to work but the flow is less than expected.

Biting down is not an issue. you do get enough liguid at a time. Hope this helps.

If the water bottle isn’t being used then yes but if you are using the water bottle then no. Only a key and credit card could fit with the W.B.

How do you wash the bottle? Is it dishwasher safe?

I would not recommend putting it in a dishwashrer, as it may not deal well with the high temperature. I use liquid soap and/or dishwashing detergent with lukewarm water. The main part that requires washing is the casing that is in contact with your skin and so usually gets soaked in sweat. It seems to do well with water+soap, i.e., get clean without losing its shape or elasticity.
