Little Foodie: Baby Food Recipes for Babies and Toddlers with Taste

My favorite baby cookbook
I've ordered and read 6 baby cookbooks and this one is by far my favorite. I do cook/am a foodie to some extent, so most of the other baby food cookbooks were way too basic for me- and also not a reflection of what my baby will be eating when she joins the adults in a few months. This book has great pointers and has given me plenty of inspiration as well as little nutrition facts with some of the recipes. For instance, we love the mango/coconut milk/chia seed purée! I didn't know how healthy chia seeds were until this book. It's also not overly preachy or paranoid like some of the other baby cookbooks! That being said, they are all pretty out of date on the most recent medical info on baby food allergies. My baby likes things super puréed so far (she's 7.5 mos) so she does better when I poach vs steam, and I just blend the poaching liquid in with the food to keep whatever leached out of the food during cooking. As for the others I bought:baby food bible: so-so and spent too much time trying to convince me to do what I was already planning to do (hence buying baby cookbooks). Had some good advice on knowing when baby is ready to start solids, etc.Top 100 baby purées: return for a refund. First of all, many recipes are not purées so the title is misleading. It's just also not good. I'm shocked that it's rated so highly and that the author is famous for this stuff.Cooking for baby: my second favorite. Good information about which foods cause or relieve constipation, good for herbs. The baby and toddler cookbook: this one is fine. It's just middle of the road for me.French kids eat everything: I loved reading this book and it has some pretty decent recipes too. It helps you feel calmer about food allergies etc when all the American baby cookbooks can get you a bit worked up.

I am a terrible amateur cook and easily overwhelmed by recipes with more ...
I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend while trying to find recipes for food that we could eat along with our daughter. I am a terrible amateur cook and easily overwhelmed by recipes with more than about five ingredients, but Little Foodie is presented in a pleasant and colourful layout. Each section begins with an overview by the author sharing her personal experiences and advice. The recipes are separated by age group and cover everything from simple purees to finger foods and meals that the whole family could enjoy. The bright pictures make even simple pea puree look like something I want to snack on. Beyond all of that, though - they are easy to follow and taste delicious! I use the pear and clove puree in a chunkier form in my oatmeal, and the baby also loves it. 'You Put the Lime in the Coconut' is now a beloved family curry dinner recipe with the addition of some salt and other spices for adult palates. As a full-time worker outside of the home and a part-time student, I find these recipes some of the easiest to fit into my schedule and am looking forward to trying more.

My favorite baby food cookbook and guide!
I have really gotten a lot of use out of this book. My baby has eaten everything I have made him from this book. I've been using it since he started solids at seven months and he's 12 months now. I also use The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet: Know What Goes Into Every Bite with More Than 200 of the Most Deliciously Nutritious Homemade Baby Food ... More Than 60 Purees Your Baby Will Love, Start Fresh: Your Child's Jump Start to Lifelong Healthy Eating, and Naturally Delicious Meals for Baby: Over 150 Fun, Fresh, and Easy Recipes to Nourish Your Baby and Toddler by Hawes, Gerrie [Da Capo Press, 2005] (Paperback) [Paperback]. Little Foodie is my favorite because the recipes are close to what I myself would want to eat, which I think prepares my baby for eating with the family. The book is broken down into six sections:1. The food you eat- smaller2. The how-to chapter3. Purees 4+months4. Finger foods, snacks and smoothies 9+months5. Our meal is your meal 12+months6. Dinners on demand 24+monthsI like that the chapters are broken up by age group, which makes it easy to look up recipes in an age range. It also gave me a lot of courage to make up my own recipes based on what I have on hand instead of just heating and pureeing frozen vegetables.

I refer to this book sometimes!
I love the uses of spices and unique recipes for baby and toddler! I live in Japan right now so this book sometimes has ingredients that aren't readily available here... but I find ways to substitute! When baby was growing in the womb, my beloved and I ate all sorts of ethnic foods (I craved Indian curry a lot!) so I think baby appreciate spices in his foods :) I flip to this book sometimes. I think it'll come more to use as he grows a little more (he's 10 months right now but in the eating stage... probably alongside the 7-8 month phase).

Perfect gift, even for yourself!
The gorgeous photos and the witty comment provide the perfect backdrop for the recipes. Instructions are easy-to-follow and the food turns out great. My granddaughters love the meals and I feel good giving them high-quality real food. This is THE guide to know what to buy and how to prepare healthy food--then relax and enjoy the experience. Its the perfect gift for you, your family, and everyone you know who is expecting or has a young family.

Bought this as a gift for a foodie friend who is expecting. She loved it right away! A great gift. Recipes are simple and not very difficult to make. Has vegetarian options as well.
