A Well Made Shoe Well Worth Buying
I am a diabetic with peripheral neuropathy. These shoes are the most comfortable ones I have ever worn, and very durable, to boot. These are my third pair. My first two pairs are 5 years old and show very few signs of wearing out. The flat, wide soles with squared edges and squared heels keep my feet from rolling or rocking, giving me the support I need while walking or even standing. I am 78 years old, and the hook & loop straps make it easy to cinch them up. I also like that they are made with leather uppers that clean up easily with a little buffing and polishing. I am buying this pair to replace a pair I donated a pair, still in good condition, to my brother-in-law in Mexico. Caution: keep the sticky H&L straps away from certain cloths, blankets, or clothing items because they will grab onto them!

This may be the shoe I have been looking for?
I have planters Faseiitis and have been wearing the same style of Kmart shoes with orthotics for 8 years. Kmart is no longer making the shoe I was wearing. So, I have been looking for a replacement for several months, with no success. I have tried at least 10 different shoes in the 25-40 dollar price range with no success. My feet seem so sensitive to new shoes that the second I put them on my feet begin to hurt. Since I was having no success, I decided to spend a little more money and give the New Balance entry level shoe a try. When I first put them on they felt better than all the others I had tried. There is plenty of room in the 9W I ordered. Lots of padding. So with room and padding I was off to a good start. I had no problem removing the insoles and inserting my orthotics. As has been mentioned in other reviews, the straps are too short. One shoe was worse than the other, it would just barely close. This problem is resolving itself the more I wear the shoes. The other problem mentioned in other reviews is the fact that these shoes squeak. The noise is coming from the rubbing of the tonque on the Velcro straps. Not a deal breaker but annoying. I will try applying some saddle soap and see if that helps. The shoes appears to be well made with a very sturdy looking sole. I have been wearing the shoes now for a few hours each day. So far they are doing better than anything else I have tried. However, it is a little too early to know if this will be my new favorite shoe. In general, I think you should give this shoe a try if planters Faseiitis is a problem, or anyone looking for a good walking shoe at a fair price. UPDATE-I used saddle soap on the tongue and straps and that stop the squeaking.

Worth the wait—incredibly comfortable!
It took about a week to fully break into these shoes. Now that I’m used to them, I don't feel any fatigue at all. I used to buy cheap shoes at my local store, but they would wear out in just a month. I'm so glad I switched to these. I saw a review describing them as looking like a "duck bill," and I have to agree! (lol) But that shape is exactly why they feel so good. I will definitely be repeating this purchase when these wear out.

Shoe fits. Velcro doesn’t.
Not good. They were supposed to be for wide feet, but the Velcro didn’t go all the way across the foot. Unwearable.

Dissatisfied
I have been buying NB shoes for over a decade. But this was my first on-line purchase. The quality was sub-par to say the least. I will continue to buy NB only if I can find a b&m store.

Perfect for nursing
These white shoes are exactly what I needed for work in nursing. They are super comfortable, lightweight, and provide excellent support for long shifts on my feet. The laces allow for a snug fit, and the shoes stay secure all day.

What is the point of sizes if they don't mean anything?
I have worn the NB MX608 through several versions for many years. I found this was a shoe that fit me and was comfortable. I have a wide foot and I have gout. So when I find something that works, I stick with it. I found the shoe about 5 years ago shopping on vacation and was delighted with it. So when I got back home (we don't have the extensive footwear stores here - Payless, Wal*mart - and various poorly stocked sporting goods or department stores. Forget finding a specific style in multiple widths.) I looked it up on Amazon. Hallelujah they had it! I have replaced this shoe many times through Amazon without incident. This time, they had gone to the (my last order was a v3) v4. When I first looked it up, I found the black/black listing and they didn't have 12 4E, or hardly any other size (I think there were only 3 or 4 sizes listed) so I figured they might be phasing it out. So I searched for "black leather New Balance" size 12 width 4E and this was one of the options I found. I thought the velco straps might be handy (I had previously used the Wally World cheapo shoes with the velcro straps and although they are nothing great, the wide ones would get me by in a pinch). I ordered these. I received them. I tried one on. It is tiny. I figured they pulled the wrong size, so I looked on the box. Says 12 4E. Ok maybe the factory messed up and put the wrong shoe in the box. I looked on the label. It says 12 4E. I tried it on again - maybe the bottom had folded or something. Nope tighter than most D shoes. So I got out a caliper and measured the shoes to see if it was just my imagination. Now I know leather shoes stretch over time, but their soles don't. I measured the maximum width of the sole where the leather joins it. On the MX608 it was 4.685" on the MW577 it was 4.420". That is a difference of 0.265" - over a quarter inch. (For a real idea of how much of a difference this is, take a pair of shoes that fits comfortably and put 4 quarters side by side alongside your foot.) Measuring the sole itself (this is more error prone since some soles taper out more than others but on these two shoes, they look pretty close) I measured 4.935" on the MX608 and 4.600" on the MW577. That is a difference of 0.335". I realize that there is no exact size descriptions in the shoe industry, but I would expect that shoes of a similar style from the same manufacturer would not be off my this much. The good news - Amazon is awesome and they will take them back. I found another listing for the MX608V4 in Black that has the 4E size and ordered it. I don't expect any problems as I went from the original to the V2 to the V3 with no change in fit so I expect the V4 to be fine.
