This is a great beginning chemistry set for older kids--probably age 13 and up. I had been looking for a set that actually contained some chemicals for simple experiments. This was the only set I found. The accompanying lab book is excellent--easy-to-follow instructions, great illustrations, over 125 experiments (some simple and some fairly complex, requiring adult supervision) and always an emphasis on safety. I would recommend purchasing a higher quality pair of safety goggles than what are included.

This kit is far more educational and fun then many of the other intro to chemistry sets we've used. There are a lot more different types of chemicals and experiments, and many of the experiments to require you have things in your house but most of them truly are things you already have in your house. That said, the experiment instructions leave a lot to be desired. I am an adult with advanced degrees and I had trouble following some of them. You will likely need to help your child through some parts of this. Many experiments require things to sit and wait for up to a day, so definitely read in advance and plan ahead.

I gave this chemistry set to my nephew for his 9th birthday. I had a chemistry set at that age and I hope that he enjoys it as much as I did mine.

We are encouraged by the level of skill suggested. It is a gift for a talented grand daughter.

As a retired science teacher, I'm disappointed. The instructions are too complicated for a 10 or 12 year-old person to follow. There are so many extra materials that I need to provide. Although it says "125 experiments," many of those are simply procedures or steps, not actual experiments. Very time consuming, so a child cannot just pick an experiment and run with it. The manual is so wordy that it's not fun anymore. I need to say something positive so I will say that there are some chemicals included that could be used in other experiments outside the kit. I'm trying to decide whether to return the kit to Amazon.

We bought this for our ten year old daughter. It started off rough, MOSTLY because we did not thoroughly read directions. Things we learned the hard way 1) for the first experiment, you need a bit of sand, not much. 2) the next experiment requires letting it sit a bit. 3) YES there is supposed to be an EMPTY bottle in the package. We have only gotten a couple days into this because we just got it but if you keep these in mind, it will save confusion. Also, READ all the directions and know ahead of time that the experiments build on each other so you cannot just find a fun looking one. The directions are easy to follow, although, there are a lot to get started (the part we "skimmed) because we were anxious to do stuff.Totally worth the price, just takes a little more work then just opening bottles and mixing stuff up.

Good supply of equipment and great range of experiments. Make sure you supervise the kids using the set.

I bought this for my curious 10 year old daughter and she loves it. My only complaint is that the book is kind of cluttered and boring and the experiments require a lot of items not included in the kit. However, my daughter and I have a ton of fun every time we play with it. I would buy it again in a heart beat!
