No babes yet for the Laverty's
This was a wonderful read with multiple plots. I will attempt to not ruin it for you. There is a house fire, pregnancy and/ or lack there of fears, political strife, and peace in the valley, if you will.

A Good Read But Not My Favorite
I have read all the books in this series and enjoyed them all, including this one. This one was just not as enjoyable. This installment has too many depressing stories in it. From the Troubles, to Dr. Laverty's fertility issues, to Donal's fire, to Bertie's cancer scare, it's just too much.I understand the author's contrast between the "pull together" residents of Ballybucklebow and the broader conflicts of Northern Ireland, but that's not why we are here. Fingal is a kindhearted bull of a man, Kinky is sweet and funny like Aunt Bee in Mayberry, Donal is bumbling comic relief, and Laverty is the young educated new-comer learning life's lessons from the lives of the locals. We buy the books for an annual visit with those characters.I understand and appreciate Patrick Taylor's efforts to address the issues of the time, and he even recognizes and addresses the new direction this volume takes in his introduction. It's a mistake though. The "Irish Country" series is an escape to a place that no longer exists, if it ever did. We don't want the intrusions of real life here. We can find those elsewhere. The author had founded a delightful, funny, safe, little community., which was wonderful to visit once a year or so. It doesn't need to change or grow. Keep it as it is. The charm of the series will be lost if it heads off into this 'real life' direction.

Irish country
I enjoyed reading this book. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, and was having some issues keeping characters separate. Also, initially I wasn't sure of some words or phrases but there is a glossary at the back. An added bonus are some recipes listed as well.I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.

An enjoyable read
As the series continues and moves into the time period of what in Northern Ireland as the Troubles. Taylor does a fine job of bringing the history of the era but keeping it from overtaking his village.

Patrick Taylor, Please Keep Writing More!
Start with the Irish Country Doctor, which is the first in the series then read each book in order to the end of the series. You will begin to preorder the next publication.Your new home away from home will be Ballybuckaloo and you new best friends will be it’s residents as the characters in this village come to life. Be sure the try some of Kinky’s (the housekeeper) wonderful recipes in the back of each book.

Love this series!
I have read every book in this series, and have really enjoyed them all. Watching the characters grow and change over time along with times in these books has been fun. They start to feel like old friends. The use of Irish slang and phrases and great descriptions of the areas involved in the story makes you feel like you're right there in Ireland. Highly recommended this book and all the books in the series. Looking forward to book 14.

No place for 'Troubles'.
The place for history is in history books - not in a book of fiction. I totally agree with those who objected to the ' troubles' being injected into the story particularly as I lived through them. Totally unnecessary.

A great taste of Irish village life in days gone by.
I have enjoyed many of this series and so looked back to see if there were any I had missed or any new ones. I am really enjoying the everyday humor and goings on in the town life. This series is well worth a read .

Great!
I have read every book in the series. They are all wonderful. This one changes tone a bit, bringing in the reality of the times. I can appreciate why he did that although it does change the peaceful feeling of the series. Still an excellent read.
