EL GRAN COMBO DE PUERTO RICO WAS FOUNDED IN 1962 BYRAFAEL ITHIER, AND SINCE THEM IT HAS BEEN KNOWN THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SALSA.THIS CD IS A DESERVED TRIBUTE TO THIS GREAT ORCHESTRA, IT CONTAINS TRACKSPERFORMED BY EL GRAN COMBO AND OTHER GREAT SALSEROS SUCH AS : ISMAEL MIRANDA,WILLIE COLON,TITO ROJAS, JOSE ALBERTO EL CANARIO, LA INDIA, AND ISAAC DELGADO.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR LOVERS OF OLD SALSA.

A long overdue "Homenaje"
The various artists who have contributed to make this "Homenaje" (Homage) to Puerto Rico's El Gran Combo have obvious love and respect for the major contributions this band has made to keeping the essence of "Salsa" alive for decades. The contributions retain the "flavor" of the originals while yet bringing their own unique "sound" to the project. A superlative CD honoring a superlative ensemble. Well worth your consideration.

Salsa for the dancer
After 2 years this is still my favorite CD for practicing my salsa steps. I will try other CD's but invariably I always go back to this one. Will get sick of the other ones but not of this one. The so-called inspirationals are a pain in the neck, the introduction to India's song is annoying but there is a lot here (including the rest of India's song) to keep me excited when I practice my salsa steps.

enjoyed the CD.
I love music by "El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico" I could listen to their style of music all day. This CD pays tribute the El Gran Combo however, some artist on this CD just Slaughtered the music.

Bueno Pero Seria Mejor Sin Las "Inspiraciones"
La Calidad de las canciones fueron buenas, pero el disco seria mejor sin las Inspiraciones y el intro prolongado de el tema Un Verano En Nueva York cantado por la India.

Hardcore! Great, but don't start here.
This CD contains very authentic Salsa Dance music. All the tracks have a great beat for dancing salsa to, and I quite like listening to them in the car as well. The main thing I would say is, if you are new to Salsa music, don't start here! Try the more accessible sounds on Salsa specific compilations first. This is for people who are already used to the salsa sound and want something different to dance to. Overall I am delighted with this purchase. It supplements all the other Salsa music I have beautifully.

El gran comobo es toda una institucion de la musica tropical caribeña el disco vale la pena como todo disco vas a encontrar cosas que te gustan y otras no tanto pero en general es cd que vale la pena
