Great home office phone
This phone is an incredible value. It feels quite solid with a decent heft to it and it has been working great for me as my office phone. The handset uses a coiled cable with standard RJ-11 connectors so I'm able to use it with my Plantronics headset and the sound quality is very good. One thing I was surprised at is that the phone still works even if you don't plug in the AC adapter. That only seems to be required for the answering machine functionality.Pros:- Big, easy to read LCD that shows caller ID information, time, date, call timer, etc.- Sturdy build.- All the critical features are there (memory dial, toll saver, speaker phone, answering machine, remote access, volume)- Phone works w/o AC.Cons:- LCD isn't back-lit so it's impossible to see in the dark.- Pressing the Mute button makes a loud beep so you can't press it w/o the caller on the other end hearing it (why do all phones seem to do this?!).

Real, unbiased summary of other reviews
I read many of the reviews here - some good and some not so good but I decided to buy this anyway. I will summarize my findings based on actual reviews from others. I realized either they made changes to the design (unlikely a company will dedicate a lot of R & D time to a low priced item) or some people do not take the time to familiarize themselves before reviewing. First of all, it's important to buy according to your need. You can't expect a $25 phone to perform like a $245 business-quality phone. I work from home and am on conference calls a few times a day. The phone is perfect for a home office. Other reviews mentioned the following:The phones overall weight: I agree - it is solidly built and doesn't slide when you pick up the receiver. The dim screen was mentioned often: There is a contrast adjustment in the menu. The screen is easily readable when adjusted properly. The Mute button works fine - It makes an audible tone when pressed, but is not heard by the other parties. I tested this 3 separate times. You CAN initiate a speaker-phone call without picking up the handset. The speakerphone does not sound "tinny". Again, I asked on 3 separate occasions and they said they heard me fine. It sounds fine to me as well and was loud enough (it also is adjustable).I feel the phone is a good value and performs well enough for a home office or general use phone. The batteries are NOT required to use the phone normally. I no longer even keep batteries in it.Update - March 2022 - The phone still works!NOTE: I purchased this item on Amazon for full price and have no affiliation to the seller. I try to write helpful, unbiased and insightful reviews because I also read reviews prior to making my own buying decisions. I notice many reviews lack helpful information, are not well written or give poor reviews based on not reading directions, inexperience or failing to read the product details prior to purchasing. Writing valuable reviews helps pay it forward.

Does Not Work Without Batteries
This item is sturdy, sleek, and looks well in my office. It has a large, easy to read display, and the sound quality is fine. All of these things are great for the price. The reason I have given it 1 star and wish I could give it 0 stars is because, without batteries, the phone is completely USELESS!I'm not just talking about the electronic screen/panel, I mean the numbers on the keypad won't even dial without batteries! The ringer won't ring without batteries! I have never seen this lack of functionality in a phone. I have other phones that require batteries to power the nice features like caller id, but when the batteries die, and the caller id can't be used, at least you can still dial numbers. With this phone, that is not the case, the manufacturers have seemed to put the keypad and ringer on the same electronic circuitry as the caller id panel. This is frustrating, because when the batteries die (and they die quite quickly in this power-hunger phone) my "office" phone is nothing more than a paperweight. I can still get a dial tone so if someone calls me, and my ESP tells me they're gonna call and at what precise moment (because remember, the ringer doesn't work either), well, in that case I can use it. But those odds are long. So pretty much, without batteries, it's a paperweight. Don't get caught in an urgent or emergency situation and count on this phone to work.

Does the job
I purchased this phone after having two AT&T corded phones fail after only one year. Since I tried to avoid AT&T products after having such a bad experience, there were few choices with the features I was looking for (speaker phone, caller ID, large display). So far the Uniden seems pretty good, especially with the nice large display which can be tilted for best viewing angle. The only negative is you can't speak to loudly into the receiver or there will be distortion. Seems the microphone can't handle loud voices too well. It's kind of a minor thing, but can be annoying at times. Other than that, it's attractive and has some nice features.

excellent product i am 100% satisfied !!!!!!
i got the product on time. easy to hook it up , and easy to use without reading the instructions. i am happy with the speaker phone very good !! i like also the message display and caller id. the price 27$ is extremely competetive and you can not buy in nyc a phone with all these features for this price, usually 40-50$. reading the reviews i initially hesitated , but very very glad i ordered it very good choice. this is my 4th order with "amazon" and i am very happy so far ! p.s it has a built in message center which is good and very convenient

Great Phone - Great Price
I bought this phone because the unit combined both answering machine and caller ID, AND my ATT phone had developed a bad buzzing sound. This phone was extremely easy to set up; and the set up was very intuitive. The calls are now clear with no static or buzzing, and the answering machine and caller ID work beautifully. The screen is not backlight, so there must be light in the room to read the screen, but that is alright with me. The price was fantastic and the product is very good. If, over time, I find that the phone broke or performed poorly, I will update this review. No updates, no problems.

Excellent corded phone!
I keep one corded phone in my kitchen. I could not replace my GE corded phone that we all loved so I ended up buying the Uniden and it has been an excellent replacement for the GE. The large display is easily read from a distance, it has speakerphone, redial, tons of number memory maybe 99? I have not used it long enough to know yet but definitely 40+ which even at 40 is more than enough. Sound is clear and the phone is easy to use. One of the most important features this phone has that I was looking to get was battery backup so that when there are power failures it keeps it's memory of numbers. This phone has it!I am happy about this purchase and would highly recommend it to others. It is difficult to get a good corded phone nowadays, and I am happy to highly recommend this one!

Poor quality phone!
The call display has already stopped working in less than six months, and there is no ringer volume for the very loud ringer. We have the phone by our bed and it scares the crap out of us when it rings!

Good, inexpensive corded phone
Serves the purpose it bought it for : home office phone. Combined with a Plantronics headset, works well for endless conf calls. Rudimentary features, but the basics are covered.

It's ok but...
Works well, but LCD screen works with batteries and there's no backlight in the LCD screen, so we cannot see who's calling if there's not enough light around.
