I like dark, gritty, make you say "Oh, eww!" stories. Mr. Menapace is right in my wheelhouse! I have to read all his books now.

breathtaking horror
This was even more horrific and stunning then the first. True evil here. And what an ending! You should read it if you want a real psychological thriller and maybe a nightmare or two

Typical slasher horror story
Jeff Menapace is a good storyteller, no doubt. Not great writing, but still a 3-star read. His short chapters shoot the reader right along from one gory scene to the next.Travis Roy is out to settle a score. He has been screwed over by the system and his father and they are going to pay. He is seeking out his heretofore unknown relatives that live in the same swamp, the rest of the Roy clan of wierdos. Meanwhile, Stacy and her hipster friends and their boyfriends go roaring through life unfocused, looking for that next drinking game or next roll in the sack. To make a bundle of greenbacks, they are heading to the swamp to do a Netflix documentary about the Roy family massacre of a few years ago. What could go wrong?I had very little connection with Stacy and her bunch of friends. They all are one-dimensional, transparent with no personality. Except Stacy, the ringleader. She is the brain that leads everyone into hell. However, the Roys, without exception, are psychopaths, each more disgusting than the ones before. Not real, not believable. There is never any doubt about who the villains are in ‘Wildlife Reckoning’.The problem with sequels is the ingrained desire to overdo the original, in this case more gore, more cruelty, more excessiveness. It’s too much. The clunky dialogue and farfetched storyline are no longer creepy. The story becomes just gross. I didn’t care for any of the stereotypes, not the ignorant blood-lusting hillbillies or the naïve money-hungry city-slickers. Everyone that dies endures horrible deaths but by then it was all so predictable. So nonsensible. Typical slasher horror story. I don’t think I would watch the documentary either.

ONE SEEKS A RECKONING, ANOTHER SEEKS A STORY
RECKONING is the second book in the WILDLIFE series and it is NOT for the squeamish! No spoilers are included in this review. This weekend, I needed to escape the real world for a while so I decided to reread a couple of my favorite books by Jeff Menapace. I flew through the first WILDLIFE and immediately picked up RECKONING. People always wonder how authors come up with this stuff but more so, it scares me how much we love these messed up stories! If I want to escape real life for a bit, I definitely prefer stories like these that keep me glued to my comfy spot!In WILDLIFE, we took a trip into the Florida Everglades and met the Roys and their extreme belief of an “eye-for-an-eye” when their family is done wrong…and sometimes, even when they aren’t. The fight for survival in WILDLIFE left someone seeking vengeance and a RECKONING. So when a group intent on making a documentary about the Roys and the horrific events a few years earlier, they are a little too eager to venture into the swamp seeking a good story. Well, they got the story…Again, I don’t want to give any spoilers but this story brings back a few characters from WILDLIFE and introduces some new ones that will leave a lasting impression on you and thinking about them long after finishing the book!

Definitely different
When I first started reading the first book, Wildlife #1, I thought to myself, "what in the heck are you reading this crazy stuff for?" I started getting a kick out of the child like story telling then next thing I new I was downloading this 2nd Wildlife book! Haha!! I usually read the murder mysteries or cop drama stuff try to find the killer or stop the killer, but these books are just fun! They kind of remind me of a kid telling a tall tale that he keeps adding on to, " and then they did this, and then they did that, and I can't believe they just killed everbody!" Definitely a hilarious change of pace for me. Thanks Jeff...lmao

Wildlife is a wild ride
Reading this was an experience to remember, similar to having your innards torn out through your throat but in a good way! The crazy swamp dwelling Roy family are back in this sequel along with their pet alligators, playing games and having fun with people they meet. Love to loath them and each character will creep you out in a different way. Jeff Menapace has a great style of writing and will leave you wanting more but more than anything reminds us that, as another great writer once said, real monsters aren't in your closet or under your bed, the real monsters are human. No hesitation giving this five stars, that very last paragraph was what truly got the emotions flowing. Thankyou for the excellent work Mr Menapace, looking forward to more!

Good stuff
A good follow up to Wildlife and written in the same manner. The book follows a group of journalists hoping to make a documentary about the events of the first book in the series. The crew hope to visit the house of the atrocities, but get more than they bargained for when they encounter relatives of the psychotic Roy family. The book is very well written with graphic descriptions of torture, so be warned, it's not for the faint of heart.

Watch what you wish for.
A superb sequel following on from the infamous Roy family incident. This time a group want to film where the massacre happened, get a true authentic feel for the place. Will they get their wish?I read through this in super fast time, and that's due to the great writing and storyline. If you've read the first, you won't be disappointed. If you haven't read the first, what are you waiting for!
