The 7 Great Cities of Ancient Mesopotamia - Ancient History Books for Kids Children's Ancient History

This is a book designed for kids between the ages of 4 and 8. It is a very select introduction to what today is often called "the cradle of civilization" - Ancient Mesopotamia (present day Iraq for the most part). I gave it to my grand nephew as a 5th birthday present and he loved it, especially one line drawing scene of a royal figure seated in a chariot with an overhead umbrella for shade. The reconstructed city of Babylon was most impressive and accurate in many ways. The "Hanging Gardens of Babylon" were also depicted (though some present day scholars believe that the gardens were actually in Nineveh). This is an excellent book for its intended audience. These are the kinds of images that will last a lifetime (as does the Colosseum in another similar type book). The printing is extra large for easy reading and there is a good deal of cursory information considering the suggested ages for readership. The individual chapters are well laid out and don't necessarily have to be read in any particular sequence. There are no disturbing features; and the colorful illustrations might make you feel as though you were looking at the original Eden which many believe was actually located in this part of the world.

Slightly difficult for 1st grade but great pictures!

It does contain false information. As I'm an Iraqi, lived and earned my education and higher education on that soil, I can assure you that there are many information are misleading and incorrect. One false information is too many.

Great for my 2nd grader for his history curriculum.

Great book explaining why towns and civilisations were created. It goes into detail on the first civilisations in Mesopotamia. I would have preferred it done it time order or explained the civilisations first, then introduced the cities but it did a great job describing the cities and how they relate to the civilisations who founded them. A great book nonetheless.
