The Odyssey: A Pop-Up Book [Ita, Sam] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Odyssey: A Pop-Up Book Review: Beautifully Executed, Visually Stunning, Intriguing Read! - I pre-ordered this book back in April and was delighted when it arrived this morning.. I have been fascinated with Homer's Odyssey since I was a small child. Magnificently created by Sam Ita! Taking Homer's classic mythical tale and turning it into a graphic novel with incredible, theatrical, stage-like pop-ups is a brilliant concept! The classic story, with its mythical heros, monsters & villains are all in place, but perhaps with a little more grit & humor incorporated into the visuals and story telling. Visually imagining an old story in a new way. You might think, "I'll just glance through it" but you will find yourself captured and intrigued by the storytelling. Great for adults who know the story...it will be new again...and I strongly suspect ideal for slightly older children with a sense of adventure. An excellent introduction to one of the western world's classic tales. Review: Fun, kid friendly - I'm an adult, but I loved this pop-up book. It's creative and has great drawings and dramatizations of the stories. It's kid-friendly, however, because it leaves out the nastier parts of the story.

Fun, kid friendly

I love this book
I love this book! It arrived as promised, "New" and just the cover alone is mesmerising. Paper engineerings work wonderfully esp the part where the man turns into a pig! And what about the pull tabs on the main popups! The moving oars on the boat was a wow-moment for sure. My only problem with this book is that because there are so many flaps (up-down, side-to-side), I found reading the comic story a little confusing and choppy. But I am still glad I finally got this book, the work that has gone into making/designing/conceptualising is very well appreciated. Will buy the other two (Frankenstein and Moby Dick) books to complete Sam Ita's series.

A great gift for any one of any age
I bought this Odyssey pop up book for my sister and her two young sons. This family friendly rendition is like a comic book in style with beautiful pop up paper sculptures. The sculptures and mechanisms are varied so you never get bored. When my nephew saw the boat pop out of the book and the oars move back and forth, he couldn't believe it! And heck, even if you don't have a child to give it to, this is a really neat thing to have in your house and show your friends ^^

Sam Ita's pop up books
what better way to get children interested in the classic and in famous novels than these wonderfully crafted and highly creative books of Sam Ita. I am hoping that they will inspire my grandchildren to want to read the originals.

bummer book
Very disappointed with dark graphic novel format...was looking forward to "Sabuda-like" bright story-telling pop-up...returned book.

Enjoyable Pop-Up Re-Telling of a Classic Myth
We really enjoyed the book. My 8-year-old daughter has been studying Greek mythology and loves pop-ups, so this was a fun treat. I'm not used to reading comic book-style, so during the first reading we accidentally skipped ahead a few times, and even missed some parts - but all in all this is a fun book, and piques the interest of those who wouldn't get much out of reading The Odyssey itself.

More words than pop-up
IT tells the tale of the odyssey, but more in words than pop-up pictures. And it's more for older children and even grownups.

When we found this book and first opened it up we were quite literally astounded how fantastic it is! The book is beautifully illustrated and the story condensed in a simple but effective way into a comic book style to allow for the pop-up practicalities. The actual pop-up element, with countless tags to pull and things to turn and open is by far the best I have ever come across, and I quite often look at the pop-up book section of the bookstore. The pop-out pieces are magnificent, ranging from huge ships whose oars move simultaneously to strange and wonderful creatures and lands. The paper the book is printed on is thick and high quality and has a lovely Matt finish to it, which makes it seem more like a handmade individual project than a book widely available for the public! When I first read it I felt like I was turning the pages of a wonderful piece of artwork in an illustration show or gallery! I bought the book for a friend who had just read, and loved The Odyssey. My sister is also a huge fan of The Odyssey and both of them absolutely love the pop-up version. For the price on here it is a ridiculous bargain, and even for its cover price of £19.99 I still cannot believe that all the wonderful craftsmanship and talent can be reproduced and distributed for such a small cost. A sure winner, a great book, I look forward to finding more from Sam Ita!

Obra klasiko hau irakurri ondotik, ikasleekin istorioa errepasatzeko modu dibertigarria suertatu da liburu hau. Gainontzekoan, komik formatuko harribitxia da, ilustrazioak sobera gustoko ez ditudan arren. Literatura klasikoa eta pop up liburuak maite ditugunentzat, erabat gomendagarria.

I bought this book for my son after he stood for ages reading Frankenstein, by the same author, in the Museum of Childhood. This is not a book, it is a work of art. Carefully crafted pop-up images, far beyond your standard children's pop-up's, in fact this is a book I wouldn't recommend giving to anyone under 10 as the designs are so intricate. Simply Brilliant!
