Best freshly roasted on Amazon!
I've bought quite a few beans over the past year or so all of which have said they're freshly roasted or at least as fresh as possible. However, this Granary blend from these guys is well and truly fresh out of the drum!!! These beans were roasted less than a week and a half ago and honestly the aroma when I opened the bag was AMAZING!! So so good.I've got a Sage Oracle Touch and dialled them in the first time this morning. Only took 3 attempts to get the right pour and...oh my word...the taste was incredible. Even my Mrs who isn't that into coffee remarked how good it was. You can really taste the caramel undertones and the freshness just hits you! I've sworn to myself now to only buy fresh coffee as I quite like a cheeky bag from TK Maxx or the supermarket but the difference between that and these freshly roasted beans is not comparable. If you're looking to buy freshly roasted coffee from Amazon this is the best you can get!! I'm looking forward to trying more from these guys but this Granary Blend is actually one of the nicest roasts I've put through my machine full stop! Absolutely delightful!!! Don't try and look elsewhere, just buy now...you will not be disappointed!

Superb beans
I've been buying Rounton coffee beans for years now, and as a frequent coffee drinker I can highly recommend. All of their beans are great, I've never had a roast I didn't like. They only roast in small batches and you can tell the attention to detail in the flavour. Very smooth and flavourful coffees, this is a true artisanal product which I have seen stocked in some of the food specialist shops in London. The 1kg bags are especially good value, which belies the quality inside! They are also great chaps who will happily let you have a look into the roastery if you stop by at random, like I did once!

A frustrating experience..
Note: I got these beans at 5 weeks post-roast date, which is, especially for medium, on the edge of stale. However, I proceeded to explore the best way to extract their most favourable flavours.Overall, bean quality looks relatively high, fairly mediocre when we get into specialty coffee, with around 60% uniformity.I tried EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING in order to extract these to their full potential, from traditional 9 bar shots, blooming shots, slayer shots, and everything in between, using doses ranging from 18g all the way to 22.5g.Two best shots I've had are a blooming shot at 22.5g, 15 second pre-infuse, slowly ramping up to 3 bars, 30 second bloom, 10 second extraction at 6 bars for ~45g out. This offered the most body, but lacked clarity, and was biased to the more bitter chocolate end of the flavours. The second, which I found the best shot was a 10 second pre-infuse, slow ramp up to 1 bar, 7 bar shot with 18g and 38g out within 27-30 seconds. This offered a slightly lower body, but much higher clarity and balance.I found that anywhere under a 1:1.8 ratio offered a very under extracted dry-mouthing experience, and anything over 1:2.2 ratio offered a watery, biased towards bitter flavour, irrespective of dosages and parameters.Tasting notes: Praline, hazelnut, milk chocolate, stone fruits - apricot and plum, and orange zest, with lasting praline and zest notes. Very balanced coffee with a saline essence.I believe my exploration for the best cup would've been shorter lived if the beans were no more than 2 weeks post-roast date, and that's where the star gets deducted. You can't state a bean lasts up to 6 months at standard storage, maybe in the freezer immediately off roast, but nothing else.Overall, fairly good quality and price for what you get, as long as roast date is no greater than 4 weeks IMO.

Expensive but worth every penny!
I only recently decided to give this coffee a try as a change from my usual Spiller & Tate favourites. It is pricey and not something one buys on the off chance one "might" like it! I was not however to be disappointed - this is one of the very best coffees I have ever had the pleasure of drinking and savouring. From the moment that the pack was opened and the initial aromas assailed my nostrils - I was hooked. Set for my preferred grind for percolator/cafetiere - I was soon enjoying the aromas released; and this only continued with the first brew filling the kitchen with that unmistakeable aroma beloved of coffee lovers all over the world. Fruity and rich with a velvety chocolate flavour; interspersed with fruity nuances, I was not disappointed. It is not cheap I know but you do at least get what you pay for. If there is a choice where my money has to be directed - I guess that something else will have to go! I will be repeating my order and looking out for other offerings from this excellent source.

Overpriced, not for a French press
The flavour is fine, smooth and fairly weak coffee. Unfortunately it offers nothing over much more affordable products. What really bugs me though is that if you grind the beans and put them into a French press it all sinks to the bottom... So you can't 'press' the beans through the water to get the most out of the coffee. Don't buy these if you use a French press.

Good, when you don't get a defective batch...
Update: note reviewed as we had the surprise of receiving another package of freshly roasted coffee sent by Rounton which tastes wonderful. This confirms there was an issue with this particular batch.Old review: We've had the same coffee several times and were very happy with it. But this last batch is awful. We can't even drink it despite attempts with different settings. It tastes like dirt, it's like drinking soil! we even felt a bit nauseated after. We also found parts that are not coffee beans inside so there must have been a problem somewhere. Seeing the price tag (28 £) it's outrageous to end up with something we have to throw away

Great coffee but expensive.
Enjoyable coffee. Definitely notice the flavour profile and would happyily make a cup for a guest. However it is significantly more expensive than "cheap" brands so take that into account!
