Nice and Simple with a fun dash of messiness
My little one loves volcanoes, so this was the perfect toy - and there’s no complicated chemicals to mix. All you need is water to activate the dissolving egg inside the volcano, which gives you fizzy red lava and reveals a little toy. Some notes of caution, it will make a mess, so place it in a container or on a towel. We used a plastic shoe box. Also, kids will want to play with the red liquid, which is fine, but it will stain clothes and turn their finger orange. Hands can easily be cleaned with some soap and water.

Bath Bomb surprised toy DOES dissolve
I was very happy with this purchase. It was exactly what I was looking for to use as a science experiment with a kindergarten curriculum. It was easy to clean, the mess went into my pan, and was easy to dump into the sink. I saw many reviews that stated that the bath bomb-like surprise toy didn’t dissolve. I wasn’t expecting too much from that, but started thinking outside of the box…how do bath bombs dissolved? In HOT water in a bathtub. So I got hot water from my sink and put it in the microwave for an additional minute to get it really hot. Then, I poured it on top of the bath bomb surprise toy and it dissolved immediately and spilled over the volcano like it was supposed to. Would but again.

Volcano is a winner, beaker creature not so much
So, short story version, don't waste money in extra beaker creatures. They are basically just overpriced bath bombs. The volcano, however, is PERFECT and comes with uber easy instructions on making traditional chemical reactions. Details: To start, the volcano itself is the perfect size. Small enough to fit nicely on a cookie sheet and to allow for reactions using small quantities of reagents. But also big enough to feel substantial, durable and looks good in pictures ;) Most other kits are a mold kit to make plaster volcano's that have confusing directions and are easy to mess up. Even a successful mold can really only be used a half dozen times or do before breaking down. Cleanup on this thing is my FAVORITE part! Its smooth high quality plastic, and literally ready for a new round with a simple 20 sec water rinse. We've already run about 10 different variations in the first couple of days we had it and it still looks brand new. On to the actual experience! So we did the first attempt using the included beaker creature but since its literally no different than a bath bomb, the chemical reaction was very underwhelming. Only about half the shell even dissolved and the toy is super basic, like 25cent machine toy level quality. However, the package comes with simple instructions for traditional baking soda + vinegar experiments which work great. My daughter is 6 and loves science subjects so while we started out just playing around with the actual reactions, I have already planned out several lessons for the upcoming school from home (joy....ugh) semester. There's color mixing (food color into the vinegar), chemistry (reaction of reagents, alternative reagent experiments), geology (anatomy of volcanos and ecological impact) and I'm sure other avenues to explore. Bottom line, absolutely worth every penny, but set the right expectations with the beaker creature. For older kids (or really clever ones) maybe even talk about the difference in reagents to chemical reactions, one being more dramatic than another etc.

Grab your lab coats we're about to have fun.
We got this for our five year old for Christmas, he asked Santa for a volcano. So I naturally looked at Learning Resources first. I have used Learning Resources since my son was 6 months old. I absolutely love their products. I remembered seeing this volcano set and thinking that is going to be messy. So the day after Christmas my son was in his scientist mode. He brought this to me and we got to work. It was so much fun. I recommend putting a deep baking pan underneath it. It gets everywhere quick. My little one absolutely loved the surprise creatures. He loved finding the ones he got and was excited to catalog them with all their different characteristics. We can't wait to try some of the other experiment ideas they sent with the volcano. Can't wait to see what kind out textures we get. This was a huge success for my little scientist.

Good plastic volcano but poor eruptions
The plastic volcano is made very well & perfect for reusing (what kid doesn't want to do it again). However the eruption pods are terrible quality & barely fizz. You get a much better eruption by pouring water over equal parts baking soda & red Kool aid. Definitely keeping the olastic volcano portion for that reason but would NOT recommend wasting your money on additional pods from them. We've brought several toys from this brand before & usually enjoy them but this one has been the worst yet.

Great toddler activity!
I bought this set for my 4 year old and we had so much fun experimenting! It’s a great value for the price and is super cute! The instructions are easy to read and they give you recipes for 5 different experiments. I would recommend purchasing more extra beaker creatures fizz bombs because the set only includes one and your kids will want more. I liked this set so much that I purchased a second as a gift. I made sure to purchase several extra fizz bombs this time. A great purchase and a great gift! I would highly recommend!

Do not buy
I would give it 0 stars but that’s simply not a choice As a kindergarten teacher of 15 years and someone who owns a ton of items from learning resources I’ve never been so disappointed. The “experiment” didn’t bubble at all and make a volcano. It simply deteriorated and the creature came out. The whole experiment took 5 seconds and didn’t actually do anything. The little 4 year old I purchased this for was super upset. Basically paid $14 for a small creature I could have gotten from a penny vending machine

Schlecht
Mein Sohn war echt enttäuscht. Für den Preis hatte ich auch mehr erwartet. Erstens war es nicht mal rot, sollte Lava ja sein. 2. kam fast keine Reaktion.
