Pure enjoyment and a refreshing twist on a familiar tale.
Hook is a real treat with its less than perfect but winsome Characters that capture both your heart and your imagination. It is one of those rare books that are easy to read and all but impossible to put down. I couldn’t and read it in one sitting. Not all who possess abilities at alluring and captivating speech and make wonderful promises of happiness should be believed, trusted or followed. Peter Pan is one of those people who should never be trusted. Evil and cruelty lurk behind charm and the facade of happiness. Not all who are more than a little rough around the edges have ill designs and are evil and untrustworthy. Indeed they may the only ones willing to expend themselves to avert disaster and tragedy. Captain Hook is one of these people. Captain Hook and her (yes her) loyal crew of pirates, have dedicated themselves to stopping evil.On rare occasion I will pick up a free book from an author I don’t know. This was the case with ‘Hook; dead to rights.’ All are worthy efforts, but not all are real jewels. This one is a jewel.I recommend this book as one of the most enjoyable you will read this year.

Fun Diversion
Hook is a retelling of Peter Pan in which Pan is the bad guy and Hook is a female pirate.Snark's prose is straight forward and easy to read, and the book is fast, so it's a quick read. If you've never read anything by Snark, Hook is a good place to start because it's not a big time commitment.Pirates, Pan, happy-sparkle-flying dust, Neverland . . . it’s all fun and games and swashbuckling. I read Hook during the stress of the pandemic, and the story was an excellent diversion. There is a death scene that is so beautiful I cried.I wish it were longer. Wendy shows up, and we don’t get to know her very well before the book is done.Overall, a fun four stars.

Felt the story meandered too much
The novel is a very short story, but even then I found myself skipping ahead hoping to find something more to the story. It just was not enjoyable to me, and I felt it lagged.

delightful twist on J. M. Barrie's classic tale
I read the Kindle edition of Hook: Dead to Rights. What if Peter Pan is the bad guy? In this delightful twist on J. M. Barrie's classic tale, Captain Jayden Hook embarks on a quest to rescue Wendy Darling from the clutches of Peter Pan.This is a quick, enjoyable read. The characters are well described and the scenes are full of action. Hook, as a former hostage of Pan, is believable as the protagonist, even though she's a pirate.I got the Kindle edition for free, at that price, its well worth reading. The biggest disappointment is how the end sets up the sequel.

I love this book!
I absolutely love this book and the writing style. I also love the take on a timeless character I have loved since I was a child. The author is knowledgeable about their subject and they are very creative in their story telling. Jayden Hook is now at the top of the list of ny all time favorite book characters. I even did a small closet cosplay of her for the Ren. Faire. Hopefully someday I can do a proper cosplay of her.

Rethinking Peter Pan
This was an interesting story with well developed characters and good world building extension. The familiar story and world of Peter Pan and Neverland are turned on their head as we see events transpire from the view of a very different Captain Hook. She bares superficial similarities. The story is in the differences from what we expect.Jayden Hook is a complex character. She is a fearsome pirate captain who has a history that we start to unveil in this first book of a series.Worthwhile reading!

Fantastic take on an old story
Love Peter Pan as a kid. Hook the movie was an all time favorite of mine. As an adult this book put a fantastic, more mature spin on the story. Casting Pan as a villain was a very interesting plot point. I hope as the series develops we get to see more of his dark side. I enjoyed Hook and her crew of pirates. I think a great foundation has been laid to develop the world of Neverland in a way that revitalizes my childhood fondness of the original story but in a grittier, darker way. I really look forward to the release of book two!

Not for me
DNF at 33%A Peter Pan retelling in which everything you thought you knew about Neverland is wrong. One of the most intriguing draws for me was that Captain Hook is a girl. The cover art is highly impressive and the bio is, as I said, intriguing. However I can't bring myself to finish this. The beginning started well enough. In fact I was really impressed with the intro. As the story progressed I noticed it started to lag. Starkey gave me the creeps. I would have kept going though had it not been for Hook's description for Tinkerbell. Her overly, uncomfortable descriptions that hovered on the sinful and immoral, if you know what I mean. I decided to call it quits right then and there.I am giving this 2 stars for the amazing cover. I personally wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
